A 31 year old Macroom man has been jailed for 13 years for an unprovoked assault where he kicked and stamped on the head of a 75 year old man who spent almost a year in hospital and has now been forced to go into a nursing home as he can no longer look after himself. Jonathan O'Driscoll, with an address at Coolcower House, Macroom but originally from Dan Corkery Place in the town, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm to Christy O'Callaghan, then aged 73, at Sleaveen East, Macroom on March 21st 2019. This week at Cork Circuit Criminal Court, Det Garda Alan O'Sullivan told how Mr O'Callaghan had gone to Kinsale for a meal with his partner before he dropped her back to Blarney before heading home to Macroom when the assault happened.
