Eyewitness News Reporter stacey sager live in forest hills looking at how people are trying to stay cool. Stacey . Reporter well, hi dave. Were out here on austin street in forest hills where my photographer is telling me this little breeze is making things very more comfortable. Im going to use my strategy and find whatever sliver of shade i can get into because this sun has been beating down out here on this sidewalk all day long. Pedestrians we caught up with throughout the day today, they told us they feel fried already. They say its actually not the heat, its the humidity. Thats making this feel like torture. Especially so many days in a row and they they zaire not sure say theyre not sure how much more they can take. Its not healthy really. Its just debilitates or saps all your energy. Hopefully it wednesdays right away blaze gosh ends right away because i cant take it for some reason. Enjoy the heat. Listen a week if now from now, say we have three, four cold days, wheres the summer . So cold. They forget, people forget very quickly. Reporter okay. He was like the only guy that didnt mind the heat today. All i can say is this heat is especially rough on the elderly and also very, very young children. Were going to have a lot more on that coming up in another live report at 6 00. For now we are live in forest hills, im stacey sager, channel 7 Eyewitness News. Well, stacey not much shade out there. I know looking forwhatever shade and she couldnt find it. I did an informal questionnaire, a little poll i did on twitter account. And it kind of was even between who prefer ld cold or heat. Actually i couldnt tell you i think the cold is winning out right now. That people prefer the cold . Cold to the heat. Of course if i asked that question in the winter, i got a feel its going to flip a little bit. Its really the humidity out there. Its its tough. Its like its like pea soup out mere right now. I mean the humidity is going to be if anything increasing during the next several days as the heat wave ends, so temperatures might end up feeling just as hot into the day tomorrow. And thursday. Even though theyre going to be near normal for this time of the year with the humidity feeling like its close to 90 degrees. It is close to 0 degrees just 90 degrees just ordinary air temperature right now. We head up and look over toward central park and temperature in the park officially 87. The wind from the south around 3 miles per hour. Normal high this time of year around 83. 94 was the record back in 2002. So unlike yesterday, we did not tie a record high for today. Check out the rainfall. Yeah, that happened around 6 00 this morning. And about an hours time period. We got a pretty heavy downpour in and around the city. Sun setting at 7 51 and this type of air mass you just can never rule out a shower or a thunderstorm to develop. They can develop anywhere. Theyre very small but the one this morning happened to happen over millions of people. So we heard about it. Any thunderstorm over the next few days can contain some downpours again that heat wave ending but the humidity will be hanging on. Now the storms should stay very spotty through the day on thursday. So tomorrow and thursday, it doesnt look like we have any widespread activity but things will change late thursday night into the day on friday. Therell be a front nearby and the front will actually stall out right along the coast. And that could actually mean some more widespread heavier downpours. 89 your temperature right now in newark. 90 at teterboro airport. Your 82 down the shore at belmar a little bit of natural airconditioning off the Atlantic Ocean and also on the island at islip and montauk and some rain cooled air in the hudson valley. The dew points measuring the amount of moisture in the atmosphere between uncomfortable and oppressive and i think just squarely within the oppressive category for tomorrow into thursday. We still to have a do have a flash in effect for Flash Flood Warning in effect for South CentralOrange County until 5 45. Thats from rainfall what happened earlier. That happened earlier. Still ongoing ponding and flooding in the area that will be expiring soon im assuming. Also some other showers right now developing near i84 not too far from newburg. Thats what brought your temperature down to 81 and we had a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for this cell in central dutchess county. Thats since weakened from a ordinary old summertime downpour. Its right near clinton heading towards stanford. Not moving much so that can create some localized flooding as well. The main access of moisture is still off to the west right now a little bit. That will move to the east during the next several days. Thats why the humidity increases and eventually that will system there, you see over the upper midwest, which is very strong for this time of the year, will move in our direction for thursday night into friday. It might even affect our weather over the weekend unfortunately. Heres your accuweather forecast for tomorrow. Not as hot but every bit if not even more humid. The high getting up to about 84. Sun giving way to clouds on thursday. Could be some late day thunderstorms west of the city. A better shot at more widespread activity thursday night into friday. Accuweather forecast for tonight.
