(WHEC) — A Wayne County man is facing charges after deputies say he "significantly'" hurt a child in October. The Wayne County Office of the Sheriff announced Thursday they arrested 23-year-old Lewis Benjamin, of Red Creek. Deputies say back in October, Benjamin was at a home in the town of Savannah when he hit a two-year-old child with an open hand after he became upset with the child. They say the hit caused significant bruising, swelling, and pain. The sheriff's office says Benjamin was arrested after an investigation was launched by Wayne County Child Protective Services. He is being charged with assault in the second degree, and endangering the welfare of a child.
