Looks pretty good from the network of traffic cameras. A look at route 42 at the Atlantic City expressway in gloucester county. These roads will get quite a workout this weekend. It does look like this would be a good time to head out there. Lot of drivers headed of course to the shore. Nbc 10 Jersey Shore Bureau reporter Ted Greenberg is live in wildwood. Maybe you will be tempted to get on the ferris wheel or the roller coaster, whatever tempts you. Reporter ferris wheel, yes. That roller coaster, no. Because it goes upside down. I dont do those kinds of rides anymore. Not in about 25 years. Take a look behind me. I think more people have shown up here on the boardwalk since we last talked with you at 4 30. We have something really cool today. It is a remote controlled aerial news camera we are showing you. It is flying above the beach in wildwood. As we take a look at the shot from that camera. You can see its sweeping along part of Mariners Landing pier moreys pier, one of three mor moreys pier attractions. Also you can see part of wildwoods massive beaches. The camera there sweeping back across towards the ferris wheel. It has been off and on. Right now its not moving but people are on it. It has been going around. Then you see some other rides there on Mariners Landing that are spinning. Again, in the category of the rides that i dont go on anymore. Just not good with those spinning rides. A lot of people love them. A lot of people here at the jersey shore this weekend. A lot of people up here on the boardwalk as well. We were out today on long beach island, we were in sea isle city. Lot of people on the roads heading here to the beaches and you can see a lot of them are having fun there. Going down some of the water slides at raging waters water park as we take another live sweeping view. This is really cool. Views we dont usually get when we do jersey shore stories. Usually we are live on the beach or the boardwalk or we can get a shot from a helicopter. Here with this remote controlled aerial news camera we are right in the middle. There you see it in the distance one of the other moreys piers in wildwood. This is cool. A lot of people are still out there on the beach. Who can blame them because it has been a really nice day there. They are trying to soak up what is left of this day. Little filtered sunshine out here but nobody i dont think is complaining. They are having a very very good time out there on the rides at moreys pier Mariners Landing and raging waters water park. Guys . With you on the spinning rides. We are both shaking our heads no. But you know what maybe for your next live hit, ted, it can be in the ferris wheel with that aerial news cam, we can see you that way. It would be perfect. No pressure. Hes thinking about it. Lets take a live look at center city from an aerial vantage point. The stage being set for tomorrow nights big concert in front of the art museum. That event, just one of many that will bring thousands to downtown philadelphia and keeping those people safe is a top priority for police. City officials project three quarters of a Million People will walk philadelphias ben franklin parkway and tourist areas over the Holiday Weekend. Nbc 10 was on Independence Mall as a small army of Law Enforcement officers kept vigil to prevent any trouble. Officials say countless eyes both human and electronic are in place to protect the public during welcome america activities. We are fully prepared. We are fully engaged with our counterparts all over the country and we are definitely prepared in the city of philadelphia. You see Police Presence everywhere. Its comforting. I want to show people that im not scared to be able to come here and enjoy the fourth of july. Officials stress people should use mass transit instead of driving into the city. No backpacks or coolers are allowed. For a complete list of dos and donts go to nbc10. Com. We also know security is a major focus for the popes visit coming up in september. Last night, nbc 10 was first to report that officials plan to build a security fence across a fourmile stretch of the city. Tonight nbc 10s Harry Hairston has learned new information about that fence and how it will impact people and businesses in the city. Reporter well sources tell us there are discussions about fencing off a large part of the ben franklin parkway which will shut down traffic and also alter foot traffic to and from hotels and other businesses. It seems as though we are having some problems with our package we wanted to show you. We have been talking to a lot of managers at the hotels here. They say they have been talking to members of the secret service who have told them theres going to be barricades within 13 feet of their hotel doors. The front doors are going to be shut down completely. Everyone else is going to have to try to get into the hotel through alternate ways. Coming in through the back door. I also did catch up with the deputy mayor who said the city will not be involved in this. There is going to be a perimeter. Reporter the general manager for the Embassy Suites says secret Service Agents have discussed some security measures involving fences with him and other business representatives along and near the parkway. The restrictions around the hotels going to be a 13 foot barrier from the door to the street. Our front entrance will be closed completely. Reporter i caught up with philadelphias deputy mayor. He tells me the city will not play a role in putting up security fences. Its going to be up to them. That hasnt been all of that stuff about that kind of security has not been finalized yet. But anything with fencing, you got to talk to secret service. Reporter the secret service declined to tell me exactly where fences would be placed. The agency says decisions on that security changes almost daily. That is what the agents are telling him also. Are you expecting any more information to come about how they may put in fencing or anything of that nature . Yes. We have another meeting with the secret service next thursday i believe. Its going to be local as well as the division from albany, new york. Reporter sources also tell us that the fencing thats expected to go up the monday before the popes arrival. Here at home happening now, crews are making repairs after a water main break in southwest philadelphia. The line burst at 61st and wheeler this afternoon. 65 properties are now without water. No word on how long the repairs will take. One year later, nbc 10 goes back to gesner street to see how that community is recovering from last years tragic fire. It was no easy task but see how rescuers managed to save this horse after it fell into a six foot hole. Its a perfect night for first friday in dover. Thats what they are setting up for. We dont have any of that right now thankfully as they get ready for the First Friday Party here in dover. Theres going to be a painting class. I can tell you state environmental experts say the heavy rain that we had that left the area one big puddle over the last week well it created a perfect environment for mosquitos to breed. It takes about seven days which means today and tomorrow, well, happy birthday, mosquitos. All that torrential rain we just had, delaware environmental folks say it means now a week later we will see lots more mosquitos. Its on another level of mosquito out here. They like birds. Reporter that guy says he and nature just dont mix. Im not a woods type of guy. Reporter the mcfarlands are facing the hungry baby mosquitos head on with some of this and a lot of this. The state park in bear wont be intimidated by the mosquitos out in the water or along the trails. They zip up tents quickly and use plenty of repellant. So far, so good they say. When we first got here after the rain it was pretty bad. Use the bug spray, get the campfire started. It wasnt that bad. Reporter get rid of standing water where mosquitos thrive. Buckets, flower pots uncovered old boats, anything that takes on water, you need to dry it out. The state does have traps and do spray. I think it helped. I dont know if it worked but it helps. Reporter mosquitos are persistent and seem to have endless reinforcement. You can fight the fight or just stay inside away from the bugs. I brought a couple nonspray options. We will talk about these at 6 00. Im always open to home remedies. Im susceptible to mosquitos. Im loved by mosquitos. I guess i have that sweet blood. Live in dover, tim furlong, nbc 10 news. Rescuers spent more than an hour this morning trying to save a horse that fell into a six foot deep hole in western pennsylvania. It happened about an hour south of pittsburgh. Crews used harnesses and pulleys to get the animal out. The owner spoke about what happened. It was just a sinkhole. We had just mowed that path. We usually dont use that path. Obviously they come through there and he fell right through. Fortunately the horse didnt suffer any injuries and was able to get back up on all fours after a little coaxing. Officials along the North Carolina shore are on high alert this Holiday Weekend after seven people have been bitten by sharks in the last three weeks. Reporter the visitors are expected along the coast this weekend but after a string of people bitten by sharks off the coast of North Carolina worries of more potential attacks are keeping some close to the shore. I dont normally worry about this at all, but because of the frequency and the distribution, im concerned. We have a subject has an injury from possible shark. Reporter the latest victim Andrew Costello now in Good Condition after a shark bit him on the leg, hip and both hands. It was North Carolinas seventh shark encounter in three weeks, a record. But this weekend, officials have decided not to close any beaches. Im reviewing also with the Public Safety personnel to make sure we have the personnel in place to respond to any potential emergency. Reporter in wrightsville beach, so far no dangerous encounters. Officials and vacationers both hoping it stays that way through the busy Holiday Weekend. But even experienced surfers are extra alert for potential danger. Less likely to go out, even to let the kids paddle out by themselves. We will go in the water but were a little nervous. Reporter watchful eyes on the water and what could lie beneath the surface. A major u. S. Airline is making history with flights to havana. Jet blue began offering direct flights from new york to cuba today. The flights leave every friday from jfk airport. The flight takes about 3 1 2 hours. Americans are not allowed to travel to cuba for tourism but can travel to visit relatives or participate in an academic program. Slot machines are proving to be winners in pennsylvania for the first time in awhile. The states 12 casinos earned more than 2. 3 billion in the fiscal year that ended june 30th. Its the first increase in three years and its up about. 7 from the year before. Philadelphias second casino is slated for the sports district in south philly. The hotel and casino will be built along packer avenue where a holiday inn now stands. Ground is expected to be broken in the next few months. Whole foods market wants a Liquor License for its up and coming store in lehigh county. The Grocery Store is moving into the Hamilton Crossing Shopping Center. Whole foods want to sell beer and wine at a restaurant inside the store. Town commissioners have a hearing on the matter later this month. The Shopping Center doesnt open until july of next year. The schuykill river trail is Getting National attention right now. With good reason. It is leading a nationwide Readers Choice competition. Usa today chose 20 trails. Readers can confident their vote to name the best trail in the country. Right now the schuykill river trail is leading the contest. No surprise. The trail stretches 26 miles from philadelphia to phoenixville. Good day for biking and perfect friday for fishing in bear, delaware before the fourth of july holiday. I am tracking a chance of showers as we head into tomorrow plus a chance of moderate rip currents down the shore. And warmer conditions expected for us on sunday plus more sunshine on sunday. Seeing partly cloudy skies throughout cape may. Thats not stopping anyone from going out there. We are seeing really nice conditions along the shore. For philadelphia sun and clouds temperatures at 82 degrees, the humidity is low. Its comfortable with winds out of the southsouthwest at six miles an hour. Across the rest of the region, 79 in trenton. 80 in mt. Holly, mid 70s in Atlantic City, 77 degrees in millville and 78 in dover. We want to show you the water temperature. Right now its 72 degrees and in avalon in the mid 70s. An even spread no matter where you are. Its nice and comfortable mainly in the mid 70s. Even checking out lewes and parts of rehoboth beach. As we head into tomorrow similar conditions expected temperaturewise but we are going to see a chance of showers. The satellite radar shot shows right now mostly cloudy skies throughout the region but dry conditions. If i widen out the picture, i will show you the weather disturbance off to the southwest. Heres whats going to happen as we head into the next 24 hours or so. We will start with tonight. We could see a few little sprinkles, light showers, quickmoving showers moving throughout parts of the area. But we are mainly going to stay dry for your fireworks. As we head into tomorrow morning, if you live in the poconos, Lehigh Valley stretching out to Lancaster County, right in the western part of philadelphia, by 9 00 a. M. You could see a few little light showers. These are going to be again quickmoving. This isnt going to be a washout. I just dont want you to be caught off guard if you notice a little light rain tomorrow. By 1 00 p. M. It looks like the best chance of showers is mainly right along the shore. Atlantic city stretching down into cape may, into central and southern parts of delaware. So closer once again to rehoboth beach. We could even see a heavy downpour in that short amount of time. Then you notice a little more clearing, perfect for the fireworks. We will clear out by right around 8 00 p. M. Throughout 11 00 p. M. Clear conditions expected for us. Thats going to set us up for a really nice day as we head into sunday. So we take a closer look at the beach shore cast as we get into your 1 00 hour thats when we will start to see the best chance of rain moving right along the shore. You might want to take a quick break, go eat lunch and come back out for a few more hours of sunshine and dry weather. Our poconos forecast shows on saturday 72 degrees with a chance of showers mainly in the morning. On sunday more sunshine warmer temperatures as High Pressure rebuilds in from the northwest. A moderate risk for rip currents. Be careful, keep an extra close eye on the kids on saturday. Mid 70s, cloudy with a chance of showers down the shore. On sunday our temperatures at 80 degrees with more sunshine expected. So across the region we will see nice comfortable conditions as we push into tomorrow. You are going to wake up to conditions closer to the 70s in the morning and then high 70s as we push into the afternoon. 77 will be the high in philadelphia, 77 in trenton. As far as tonights concerned, its still going to be a mild evening, temperatures will drop down into the high 60s for philadelphia, 64 degrees for the suburbs to the north and west. The temperatures tomorrow will range between 74 and 77. Still about ten degrees below anchl average. Sevenday forecast shows warmer conditions on the way as we head into sunday.
