Back here at home we spoke with the commander of philadelphia metro recruitment for the u. S. Army. He said recruit operations will continue as usual and they wont reveal any security measures that might be taken in response to this shooting spree. Right now, neighbors on edge after weeks of breakins at homes around one bucks county town neighbors wonder how they can protect themselves. Nbc 10s Deanna Durante joins us along twisted lane in levittown. Reporter this neighborhood alone has had three breakins this summer. Police in levittown, Falls Township Police tell us they have investigated more than 60 cases since the start of the year and not far away earlier this week someone drove up to a driveway, broke into the home stole valuables and guns. It was along reed avenue in levittown tuesday. Residents who didnt want to go on camera say they saw a green car parked along the street. They thought it was a visitor to the neighborhood. That night they learned that car likely belonged to a thief. I have been here since 73. I have never seen problems in this area. Reporter david says he was sitting at his kitchen window days ago and saw his neighbor come running from her home screaming. Someone was inside. I said come on in whats the matter. She said i think theres somebody in my house. Reporter the woman had been assaulted. Since january, police say more than 60 cases have been investigating. While some arrests have been made others were unsolved like the cases on twisted lane. We try to talk to the kids be careful, watch what youre doing, whos around. If you see something suspicious let somebody know. Reporter residents have to lock up and live in fear. Police say they are Holding Community meetings where some asked about arming themselves especially since some breakins occur when people are inside or sleeping. Dont come in my house. Reporter the gentleman that just walked by walking his two large dogs didnt even ask why were here. He says his dogs would let him know if someone was in his house. According to an indictment William Obrien sold prescription drugs to people who didnt need them. Investigators say he had a deal with members of the pagans motorcycle club. The indictment says the group would send socalled patients to obrien. For 200 he allegedly wrote prescriptions for 540,000 pills including oxycodone, amphetamines. The pagans would sell the drugs on the street. The feds say a patient who received prescription drugs from him died. Developing news from the Delaware Bureau concerning standardized tests. It turns out Public School students in that state wont have a chance to opt out of them. Governor jack markell vetoed a bill that would have allowed them to do just that, allowing students to skip statewide and district tests without repercussion. That brings us to another school matter. Are teachers in new jersey makeing the grade . In the past teachers were simply deem satisfactory or unsatisfactory. A new state Evaluation System requires more observation and uses student performance data to grade teachers. In the 201314 school year 97 of teachers were considered highly effective or partially effective. Lets take a look at the counties that the test says need work. In camden 12 teachers received a score of ineffective. 255 teachers are considered partially effective. Moving to Gloucester County the numbers turned to 10 teachers considered ineffective, 53 are partially effective. Some of those teachers will receive additional support. Some could lose their tenure. Police say they found more than 2,000 videos and photographs of child porn on the computer of a Delaware County man. The 68yearold of radnor township is in jail tonight charged with possession of child porn and sexual abuse of children. Investigatorses found more than 80,000 images on his computer. They are not sure if the photographs meet the Legal Definition of child pornography. Unfit for a third world country. Thats how residents describe a park in one Cumberland County town where their kids spend the summer playing. They are talking about a park in millville. They say drug addicts and the homeless hang out on the outskirts of that park. As a result, they are constantly finding used needles scattered on the ground. Thats what a window washer hired by homeowners in south jersey is accused of doing. He is suspected of stealing 28,000 worth of jewelry from at least two homes in evesham township. In one case a woman found her missing Engagement Ring laying in a driveway but when she put it on she noticed it felt way too light. You can see a framed glass storefront. They have a recruiter inside and indicated no security measures in the offing. Right next door is the Marine Recruiting Center another glass frame storefront. I spoke with the Staff Sergeant inside who says they have not been told of any new security measures, bullet proof glass, cameras, locks that are imminent. Right now, the law requires mandatory testing in grades three through eight and again in high school. Todays vote keeps the testing in place but gives states more control over how to use the tests to assess performance with schools, teachers and students.
