The states top cop is accused of leaking secret grand jury information and lying about it under oath. Today, her attorney spent several hours defending the charges against her and it just wrapped up a half hour ago. We heard from her attorney. Nbc 10s Deanna Durante joins us live from norristown outside the Montgomery County courthouse. Reporter Kathleen Kanes new york citybased attorneys were unsuccessful in getting any of the charges against her thrown out of court. They made repeated objections to the district justice inside the courtroom. They were upset about lack of paperwork, they wanted to call a prosecution witness as a defense witness. These were all things the judge did not allow. You are looking now as Kathleen Kane left the courthouse along with her sister and state agents who by her side. The attorney general said nothing to reporters, smiled briefly before she got into the elevator. This hearing lasted more than four hours and all of the charges from conspiracy to perjury are being held against the attorney general. Here is what her attorney had to say a little while ago. The entire story hasnt come out yet. I think a little more of the story evolved today. A little too slow for my taste. But we are looking forward to a trial. Reporter now, what is the whole story. We know from the attorney generals press conference that she held in harrisburg that she blames political foes saying that because she has emails on state servers that this is to blame as to why she has been charged with lying to a grand jury. I asked the assistant District Attorney, the First AssistantDistrict Attorney about that as the hearing ended. He said this is not a case about email. This is a case about what Kathleen Kane has allegedly done. Take a look at some video of her entering the courthouse a little while ago. This was as the attorney general arrived here. She and her twin sister walked into the courthouse. Her sister walked in first wearing a blue jacket. That threw off some of the media. Kathleen kane was right behind her in the red dress. When can we expect that rain . It will take a few hours to get into even some of the western suburbs. It will take all night to get toward the shore. A live view of cape may,ings this pretty quiet there. If there is going to be any rain tomorrow, it will be early in the day and at the shore. This is the line of clouds with a few showers and even some thunderstorms associated with it. As you can see, its still well west of the area. Just barely getting into berks county and some showers in Lancaster County right now. The thunderstorm that was off to the west, that has even weakened and other heavier showers again near lancaster. I will take even a couple hours to get into chester county, let alone anywhere in philadelphia or new jersey. By 7 00, there it is coming into chester county. Then theres not a whole lot during the night tonight. We may see some regenerate later tonight and even into tomorrow morning as some of the moisture down south starts to come in. He sexually assaulted one of the women before he got away. The man who was with Rosie Odonnells daughter, by the way, when she was found appeared in court today via closed circuit television. Steven shearer of barnegat is charged with entaidangering the welfare of a child and distribution of obscenity to a minor. The charges center around 17yearold chelsea odonnell. She went missing for a week after disappearing from her mothers home in new york. Shearer is in toms river jail tonight. The question is, is it a bluff. Union workers in Atlantic City plan another move tomorrow. It signals it will strike against the trump taj mahal. Local 54 says it plans to load a storage trailer with strike supplies. The union will start training workers as strike captains to picket outside the casino. Trump entertainment resorts says it has plans to remain open if there is a strike. The trump taj was the only one of the eight casinos that didnt have a profit in the second quarter. The casinos posted a combined 28 increase in gross operating profit. The borgata made the most while the Golden Nugget had the largest yeartoyear increase. Switching gears now. Fall classes began at West Chester University today. After remedial work to kill a dangerous bacteria was finished. Trace amounts of legionella bacteria were found in Water Systems inside ten campus buildings on friday. The hot water is back on after a process known as superchlorination. It was completed sunday. School higherups say they never had an outbreak or any risk to anyone on campus but that aggressive and voluntary tests were carried out after a University Employee tested positive for the deadly disease last month. At this point, all the hot water is back on. No buildings were ever closed. There is no chance of legionella developing with the students or faculty and staff. No dormitories or students moving in were affected by the bacteria. Known to cause deadly legionnaires disease. Its a type of pneumonia. A rally outside the classroom in Delaware County today. Today, the nfls head of officiating, dean blandino, says quarterbacks can be hit on those plays. Basically because the quarterback has an option, hes considered a runner until he either clearly doesnt have the football or he reestablishes himself as a passer. Its not a foul by rule. Reporter but chip kelly says today it was not a zone read play and has only called zone read plays in the preseason for tim tebow. We know the rules. If our quarterback hands the ball off and isnt going anywhere, you shouldnt be able to hit him. The way the rules been explained to us. If they want to get into that, they can get into that. Then every other quarterback in the league when they get back in the shotgun can be hit. Reporter chip may not have called a zone read play there but it could look like that to defenses. Heres Sam Bradfords reaction to that. I have no problem being hit. If you want to come hit me, hit me in the chest. I think when guys are diving directly at your knees, i think thats a little bit different. Just because youre running a play out of the shotgun doesnt mean that its a zone read. I think the league is probably just going to have to clarify exactly what a zone read is.
