We just dont see the worst of it. Lehigh valley right now sit completely dry, but that changes by this afternoon. By later this morning and at the noontime hour, 65 degrees with rain shower. Rain and wind going to be Strong Enough to keep temperatures from reaching the 70 degree mark across the board today. Go through it hour by hour. Fourth straight day of heavy rain expected in houston as Tropical Storm harvey inflicts devastation on southeastern texas. Fema expects nearly half Million People to file for disaster aide. Floodwaters chest deep in some spots stretching the resources of Response Teams there. Hundreds of volunteers using own boats to save people from in the water and plucking them from rooftops. The death toll from harvey appeared to jump yesterday at one point with news that a van carrying this elderly couple and four grandchildren including this teen was swept away by the floodwaters. Two relatives have reported it. Officials have not confirmed it. When it comes to search and rescue, just about any vehicle that can cut through water is being utilized. These guys are heros to me. We were just over there struggling. Were no heros or anything. Just here to help people, you know. Tens of thousands are now filling area shelters, including houstons Main Convention center. Mayor called it a total care operation. Houston emergency crews getting a much needed lifeline from private citizens with boats. We sent nbc 10 Randy Gyllenhaal to texas and he saw firsthand how ordinary people are becoming heros there. Yesterday afternoon jumped aboard a boat to answer a call for help. Help as many as we can. Get water to those who dont want to leave. Houston, i have a ton of friends and families here. Trying to do what we can. Take a look from the crew. Cars were covered with water at one point volunteers had to turn back because the current along the flooded out highway was too strong for their boat to hand. They told us planned to try again despite the damage. Nbc 10 and telemundo have a team of reporters covering Tropical Storm harvey. They said they dont know when theyll be able to return home. They have no idea. Thats how theyre seeing their neighborhood right now. Originally from burlington county. Came to town before harvey hit. Roads in the neighborhood are flooded with roads torn about. Its never been this bad. Never been flooded in my neighborhood. Never seen anything like that. Had no idea we would not be able to get back. The family is trying to look on the bright side. So far heard a few injuries in their hometown. Coverage continues later. More than 60 military aircraft are assisting with the disaster in houston. This video shows the crew of blackhawk helicopter rescues from rooftops and pulling them to safety. Already seeing rain in tropical threat from our area coming from a system off the carolina coast. Expect it to track off the shore and to the northeast. It may become a Tropical Storm a little later today. Thats 2 00 this afternoon. For now, were looking at dreary conditions over philadelphia. The clouds are in place over the city. Avalon new jersey, this is one of the areas under our first alert for high wind, heavy rainfall, and rough surf. The rip current risk is high again. Winds starting to pick up. Already 10mileanhour wind in wilmington. Down from last hour. 14mileanhour breeze in dover. System is over the carolinas. Just offshore. The rip current risk was dangerous yesterday. High risk of dangerous rip currents continues today for potentially lifethreatening conditions and through tonight. Radar and satellite, already getting rain and starting to spread into berks county. Not just the shore and delaware beaches that are going to get this. Steady rain and light rain through delaware. Few spots getting a moderate shower or two, no heavy rainfall. You can see the rain spreads through delaware and into maryland this morning and further south you go, the heavier rainfall you will find. Theres the system. Centered just off the carolina coastline. In fact, Tropical Storm watches and warnings in effect for the carolina coast, head out to see, take it away from us, with the improving conditions tomorrow. During the day today, going to be a rainy and dreary one. Separate from whats going on in texas and louisiana. The heavy rain continues to pound texas as a storm is now centered back over the gulf of mexico just pumping the moisture into that area. Now, were going to get pretty good rainfall. Nothing like houston, but by the time this one is done, later today, and overnight tonight could be close to two inches of rain for parts of south jersey and delaware. 9 00 this evening. Still getting rain at that time. Midnight tonight and tomorrow morning, look at that, close to two inches of rain in avalon while philadelphia just gets a third of an inch of rain. Weve got a rainy day ahead and some gusty winds, especially at the shore. 69 degrees the High Temperature today. Tomorrow will be drying out. The wind will come down. Temperature hits 78 degrees and a little bit warmer on thursday. We will get more clouds on thursday.
