Its terrifying and scary. Thousands of young undocumented immigrants brought here by their parents could now be in danger of deportation. Were just not american on. Paper. Reporter President Trump ending a program that lets them go to school or work. The program known as daca is being rescinded. This is all i have known. This is my home. The Justice Department announced today it wound wind down the daca program or deferred action for childhood arrivals. That was created under the Obama Administration by executive order. It protected dreamers, young immigrants brought here illegally by their parents. It kept them from being deported while they work or attend college. Nine states have threatened to sue the Trump Administration unless it ended a program by today. E today Jeff Sessions repeatedly referred to the program as unconstitutional. We are people of compassion and we are people of the law. But theres nothing kpom kom passionate about the failure to enforce immigration law. The Trump Administration is giving congress a sixmonth window to pass legislation to eventually save the daca program. This Program Impacts 800,000 people in the u. S. Dreamers in our area are scared they could be deported from the country they have grown up in. We said the pledge of allegiance every single morning. We dont know anything. None of us have come gone to kocountries. Protesters in philadelphia today joined around the country rallying against the president s decision. Several dreamers are rg nervous tonight. Reporter a mix of emotions out here today. Recipient told me that once it became clear something was going to change, he was anxious for the president or the attorney general or whoever to just make the announcement. So that then they could start organizing. She says now is when the real fight begins. They marched with a message to keep fighting. But alongside determination here is uncertainty. I dont know what im going to do. Theres no plan b for her right now. Well. Keep persevering. For her and other young people here, daca has opened dors to study and work. It gave me a temporary Work Authorization to finish school. It has given me the opportunity to learn from other deemers that travel within the united states. Shes a nurse thousand. It put me at risk of not having a job anymore. They gathered today to fight not just for daca, but something that goes further and covers more people like maria. The truth is that what matters most to me is my family and they have never been protected. She says they have had some peace of mind that she was protected. Now she and other Daca Recipients with ab uncertain future once again. Ending daca means going back to my country. A country that is foreign to me. Its not moem. Nothing changes for these young people right away. The impact of this is sort of staggered depending on when your permit expires. For some recipients, that means they have another two years. Its eye wall replacement. It may weaken a bit and restrengthen. Look how large the eye wall is. Look how tiny the islands are. Its not over the top of them. The Hurricane Force winds extend out. It will go right up probably through the straits of florida before it makes a hard turn and is absorbed into the upper atmospheric winds. Thats going to be the turning mechanism. Which soid florida or into the gulf, this will be fast moving. They have not seen a major hurricane since 1921 and that one put tampa under ten feet of water. It gets caught up in the trough that will make a hard turn and pull it away from the u. S. But not until its made landfall. Hurricane irma is now a strong category 5 storm. Its the most powerful in the atlantic ocean. Right now, they are preparing for the worst. 500 Emergency Response shelters have been set up throughout the island. Fema is also on the ground. They have 200 workers and hundreds of thousands of meals are ready for those who might need them. Nobody is ever ready for a category 5 hurricane, but we have done everything possible. Here in philadelphia, check with your airline if youre supposed to be flying to or from the caribbean. Some carriers are waiving the fees.
