We were with parents when their phones started going off that the Teachers Union notified the district it plans to walk out beginning monday. It means no classes for monday. However, the School District is hopeful that an emergency session over the weekend may get all of this patched back up so they can get kids back in class. They are urging parents to Pay Attention to the School Website and text alerts and email for updated information. There is no time for that emergency bargaining session. Theyre hoping to have everyone sit down together on sunday. Some of the sticking points in the contract, the negotiations have been going on since january were told, include the Health Care Plans for the teachers and the premiums. The union arguing it has already made a number of concessions here over the last several years through the recession as well as a lot of over time in the last year when the district shut down an Elementary School. We did talk to parents today. They say they are on the side of the teachers. Im with the teachers, absolutely. I love the School District. I went to this School District. My children go to this School District. Im with the teachers absolutely. Do you think they can get this resolved before monday . I hope so. This has been going on since january. Who knows . The School District sent out a statement a while ago from the School Board President saying this is the time the students are settling into their educational routine and learning materials that will set the tone for the year. It is so disheartening they will be denied this because of the mea decision, the acronym for the teachers yoop union here. Looking at winds out of the south to six miles an hour. In philadelphia 83 degrees, winds out of the west and southwest to eight miles an hour. Its a little sticky and steamy out there, very summer like. Were above average. We should be at about 79 this time of year. No rain out there right now. A few sprinkles in the offing. Im not going to rule out a sprinkle or brief shower tonight or even tomorrow. You can see this little rotation, this is whats left of what was the most powerful hurricane on record in the atlantic basin. It is drifting off to the north and east. This storm is going to cross the warmest water out there right there along the east coast. 90s there, 80s off carolina, 70s off our coastline. This storm will intensify once it hits our weather.
