That direction. There were so many people running. It was so scary. Reporter panic as concert goers run for their lives. Everyone started stampeding and jumping over fences, getting out. Reporter the Country Music festival as Stephen Paddock fired from above what sounded like an automatic gun. Thank you dont see that capacity. Reporter shooting victims began to overwhelm the local hospitals even as police continued to search for the attacker. This is from police radio. We have sight on the suspects door. I need everybody in that hallway to be aware of it and get back. Reporter police say paddock killed himself as they closed in. Police dont know what caused him to kill so many people. Those who survived the attack tell us it didnt take long to know exactly what was happening. You could hear the gunshots. You couldnt miss it. Boom, boom, boom, and then one after the other. We were laying down on the floor. I didnt know to get up, to run, to stay, to duck. I didnt know if it was safe to move because of everything that was going on. It was so scary. Police have contacted the gunmans girlfriend and they are calling her a person of interest. Shes out of the country and is expected to meet with them upon her arrival home. Keith jones, nbc 10 news. And news of this tragedy overnight played out like a nightmare for a wilmington mother whose daughter was at that concert in las vegas. Our coverage continues with tim furlong. They heard the pops and when they realized they were gunshots, they broke down fences and flipped over bike racks and used them as ladders to climb out of the area. Lets begin with her very relieved mother down in wi wilmington. I was sound asleep and got the call that no parent ever wants. Reporter lucy spent the entire night comforting her daughter on the phone. She was right there in the middle of the festival when the shots rang down from the mandalay bay hotel. She said, im okay. She explained how she ran through the streets of las vegas and into the airport. Reporter lucy understands shes one of the parents who is lucky. Others got the call that their kids were killed or injured. Her father and i already texted her and said no more concerts. I dont care if youre 33. She has two children. You have to think about that. Its a shame but you have to think about those things now. Reporter megan just arrived into philly international and is headed home to delaware. She knows how lucky she was to make it out of the concert. As we were running out of the fence, it was still going on, like a machine gunshot behind you. Its terrifying to be running backwards, like away from shots right behind you. A a. Reporter it still hasnt hit megan yet. The reunion she had at the airport with her husband. And another witness cannot believe what he saw, including moments of amazing profound kindness and generosity in otherwise what was a horrible situation. Well have that for you at 6 00. More on reaction from the shooters family, eric paddock spoke outside of his home in florida this morning. He says the family had no indication that anything like this was coming. Nbc 10s Investigative Reporter mitch flocker is joining us now. What are they saying about a link to paddocks gambling debts. Well, he had no criminal history but according to casino officials, he was gambling significant amounts of money at the casino in multiple weeks. Paddock gambled more than 10,000 a day on multiple occasions. In some cases, those reports show that he gambled more than 30,000. Hotel records show that he checked in last thursday. You can see from this map that Paddocks Hotel was just across from the concert venue. Paddocks brother says his family feels like they were hit by an asteroid. I mean, its his fault that he did this but id like to know where he found the machine guns, because thats not something that is easy to come by, i assume. And hes not i mean, he has no criminal record. He has nothing, nothing, nothing. I mean, weve been working with the cops since the first thing trying to, you know trying to understand. My brother just killed 50plus people. How does that affect me . Im a little ive got this headache right now, strangely enough. I mean, were our familys huddling together and trying to you know, were trying to make sense of this. Eric paddock also said as far as he knows his brother had no affiliations to any terror or religious groups but the shooters father was on the fbi list for bank robbery and for breaking out of prison. Authorities have not yet specified the weapons used in the Las Vegas Attack but they found ten guns in his hotel room and even more in his home. A retired Las Vegas Police officer who lives in Burlington County has been keeping in touch with his former colleagues who were on the front lines of the massacre overnight. Im just in pure shock that im sitting here in new jersey being interviewed for something that if i hadnt retired, i would have been a part of. Reporter he spent 15 years on the Las Vegas Metro police department. He was one of the first to know that something had gone terribly wrong on the vegas strip. I picked the phone up, i look and its multiple people texting saying this is bad. Hey, just want to say, you know, love you, brother. Reporter jesse had worked the Music Festival before, except this time, which should have been a fun night filled with music and friends, turn food complete terror as a gunman took aim on concert goers from more than 30 floors above. One of the officers he served with is among the dead and he knows another officer who was injured and now hes waiting to hear back from friends and fellow officers who may have been off duty attending the concert last night when those shots started. Theres quite a few that havent checked in and i know they listen to music and im hoping they are either busy at work or just waking up and getting to work. The strip is known as a soft target and something that they have spent hours training for and events like this its hard to imagine but without that training, the situation could have been even worse. The trial of the man accused of setting bombs at the jersey shore is under way. Jurors are hearing Opening Statements in the trial of a man who blew up a trash can along the route of a Marine Charity race in seaside heights. One bomb never went off and the other injured two dozen other people. O. J. Simpson is beginning his parole in nevada after spending nine years behind bars. Simpson walked out of bars early on sunday. That was the first day he was eligible to be released. Hes expected to meet with the parole officer later this week. Simpson has expressed interest in moving back to florida but nevada Authorities Say he plans to live at home in the vegas area for the foreseeable future. Facebook is turning over those ads to congressional committees. A former medicare official is on the stand today in the corruption trial of senator bob menendez of new jersey. The official testified that menendez was hostile towards him when he called medicare on behalf of a wealthy donor and friend. That donor is a florida eye doctor on trial with menendez. He was involved in a multimillion dollar billing dispute with medicare. Menendez is accused of accepting gifts in exchange for political influence. Now to the latest on the desperate situation in puerto rico. A glimmer of hope as a barge filled with equipment pulled into port. The items will allow them to make it to remote areas that they havent made it to yet. While more resources are coming in, people are still struggling. They are waking up early to stand in line for hours and what the stores do have, the supplies are being rationed out. President trump will visit the hurricaneravaged island tomorrow. Something else were seeing for the first time, long lines at western union. People are desperate for cash here. They are having Family Member who is live elsewhere send them money. This is the third tractortrailer that they plan to fill with Hurricane Relief supplies since wednesday of next week. They are well on their way to getting those muchneeded supplies to the island. What began with items as small as tooth brushes from local companies to people being in contact with walmart. Reporter has expanded to generators. Troy greens goal to move toiletries, food, water, medical supplies and lumber there. People are complaining i lost my 53foot hatteras or my mercedes. These people are like, i lost my aunt, my grandmother. Reporter its quickly turned into a positive grassroots effort. Our goal here is to get whatever is in the area and get it out to those who need it. Reporter they already have moved three 50foot trailers of supplies. When its Family Members that you see that you know that they have nothing. Reporter his entire family lives in puerto rico. He finally learned that his mother was okay yesterday. Im trying to do everything that i can possible. Were going to start clothing drives. Were going to start a nonperishable food drive. Reporter he said this relief effort is being done through private donors so items dont get held up at san juans ports. Those are temperaturesensitive items in those containers and they are going to go bad. So you have people with lifesaving issues that you cant even help. A bunch of nobodies came together to make something happen. Reporter and green considers himself no one special but hes doing something very special here by word of mouth. So far, some 100 pallets are on their way to puerto rico and in the water as we speak. He tells me he has friends on the island, trueing truck drivers, those in the medical field and doctors who will be willing to intercept and distribute this once it arrives. There were 26 security air forces to leave for the virgin islands. They are recovering after being hit by Hurricane Maria and irma. They were both category 5 storms when they hit and decimated the islands within two weeks of each other. We continue to follow the latest developments out of las vegas where authorities are investigating the largest mass shooting in u. S. History. Here is what we learned just in the last 15 minutes. Police say they got the first 911 call at about 10 08. From that point, it took authorities 1 12 to locate the suspect. One victim is from tennessee and another is from florida.
