WCAU NBC10 News Today Weekend At 6am October 28, 2017

This is nbc10 news today. Im rosemary connors. Its 6 00 on this saturday. Lets talk about our weekend weather first. Today its going to be beautiful, but meteorologist krystal klei and the rest of our weather team has issued a first alert for tomorrow. Krystal. Yeah, rosemary, today does look great. But eagles fans not so excited about this forecast. Ive been getting a lot of tweets saying are your serious sunday soaker. Unfortunately why ive issued a first alert. Sunday through sunday night we are talking for the entire area periods of heavy rain, some thunderstorms, strong wind gusts and localized flooding possible as a result. Whats happening . Weve got two different systems that are going to impact us. Theyre kind of going to come together right over our region, which is the problem. So right now on radar and satellite it looks great. Clear conditions across the board. Going to be very nice for the walkers, strollers, bikers that are going through the city today. Tomorrow a very different picture and heres why. Part one is a cold front that is sitting directly to our west. Now, as this cold front moves our way, a low Pressure Center or storm center, thats the strength sometimes of a storm, thats going to get more powerful right over us. On top of that look south, way south, im talking about tropical moisture in a while, have we . This is what were looking at now. With this tropical moisture already bringing some rain to parts of cuba and soon enough to parts of florida, but it is going to start tracking along the east coast and kind of combine with that cold front right over our area. So tropical moisture plus cold front not a good recipe for sunday. Today though like i mentioned its actually going to be a really nice and mild day. Were at 50 right now in philadelphia. 45 in pottstown and 43 in allentown. Low 50s for you at wildwood and rehoboth beach. Mild start, mild afternoon. Well talk about the high temperatures for your saturday if you have outdoor plans then look at the efkfects on sunday coming up. Thanks, krystal. This morning, a 16yearold boy is in jail waiting to go before a judge for the murders of two other teens in south philadelphia. Brandon olivieri surrendered to police last night. The teenager did not answer questions as he was led into Police Headquarters. Investigators say he shot and killed Caleer Miller and sal dinubile. Early friday morning the suspects house was the target of gunfire. Neighbors there have been on edge. It almost seems scarier that theres these kids going around, these kids with guns. Police are still trying to figure out a motive for the shootings on tuesday. Witnesses say there was an argument before the gunfire erupted. Sal dinuble will be laid to rest today. A viewing for the 16yearold begins this morning at 8 30. A funeral mass will follow. Dinbile was a junior at st. Joes prep. The first arrest stemming from the investigation into russias interference in the president ial election could happen monday. Cnn reports a federal grand jury has approved the first charges. Because a judge sealed those charges, its unclear what they are and who will be under arrest. According to cnn the charges are a result of the federal probe into russian meddling and possible collusion with the Trump Campaign during the 2016 president ial election. Special Counsel Robert Mueller leads the investigation. President trump has called it a witch hunt. Back here in the keystone state, prosecutors are not backing down in their case against members of a penn state fraternity. They refiled manslaughter and aggravated Assault Charges in the death of timothy piazza. Prosecutors claim piazza was a victim of a deadly hazing in february. Last month a judge threw out the more serious charges against eight frat brothers, but prosecutors have refiled all of those counts. New overnight, Philadelphia Police are looking for the person who shot a man three times in north philadelphia. It happened around 2 00 this morning on North Marshall street. Investigators are focused on a white dodge minivan at the scene they say had blood on the window. The victim is in the hospital this morning in critical condition. A woman is in the hospital right now following a row home fire in north philly. The blaze began just before midnight on north 11th street. Crews rescued several people from the roof of the front porch. The fire marshal is now investigating exactly what caused the fire. We do know what caused 13 Football Players to get sick inside a Delaware County High School Locker room. Skyforce 10 was over the scene at penn Crest High School last night as the players left in ambulances. Fire investigators say an air purifying machine in the mens locker room appears to be the cause that irritated the victims causing them to cough and have watery eyes. Some of the players went to the hospital while others were treated right there at the high school. Theyll all be okay. Crews had to pull the fire alarm to make sure that the building was clear so that they could figure out exactly what caused the problem. Happening now, crews are shutting down roads in philadelphia as they clear the way for philly free streets. Its the second year for the event thats expected to draw tens of thousands of people. Imagine you get to walk right in the middle of the road, dont have to worry about drivers and the weathers going to be great. Nbc10s Randy Gyllenhaal live in old city with a preview for us. Randy. Reporter hey, rosemary, a rare chance to stand in the middle of an intersection in the middle of philadelphia streets. As of a few minutes ago the streets are officially closed. You can see them setting up the balloons here at the stage where the Ribbon Cuttings going to happen. You can find a lot of these signs up and down the third street up to Fourth Street from old city into north philadelphia as this free streets event kicks off. And all along this route youre going to find free events like yoga, dancing, handball. I think you can even help paint a mural over at fifth and somerset. It is the citys second experiment with this free streets event, but this is the first time it will extend away from center city, especially so far into north philadelphia. Most folks we talk to say its a good chance to get outside and explore. It brings people into the city in a safe way with the streets closed down and stuff. The city should do tons of things where people can stop and take a breath and look around and shop and eat. Reporter some concern about Traffic Congestion especially if youre driving in this area. So you will need to be careful. You may recall that this all started when pope francis visited philadelphia back in 2015. The city had to close a number of streets for security concerns, but so many residents found it so fun to just walk around that they extended the tradition. This time, again, coming from old city all the way up into north philly. For now live in old city, Randy Gyllenhaal, nbc10 news. My neck of the woods. Thanks for that, randy. Now that im thinking about it, ive been having trouble getting around when i get home later today. Hey, today wilmington is kicking off its own open streets event. Thats why they have the flashlights out there. Just want to make sure theyre putting out all the hot spots. Also want to make sure nobody is inside this house. Now, what were hearing from police is that its abandoned, so thats the good news there. But its a row home, so certainly they want to make sure the fire doesnt spread to neighboring houses. Defense secretary jim mattis is warning north korea this morning that the u. S. Will never accept a nuclear north. Mattis is in seoul, south korea, today to talk to leaders about north korea. The prototypes for the wall are being finished. Over the next two months workers will test them using sledge hammers, torches and pick axes. The testing could lead to one prototype chosen or a combination of elements that would be used in the wall. History buffs have been poring over the thousands of newly released documents related to the assassination of president john f. Kennedy, but many are disappointed that President Trump vowed to pressure from the fbi and cia and decided not to release hundreds of files even though he said all of them would be out there. Nbcs Chris Pallone has the story on this. Reporter historians and journalists say no bombshell in the dump of documents but there are some insights like fbi director j. Edgar hoover fearing the American Public might not believe Lee Harvey Oswald was a lone shooter. Hoover said he wanted something issued so he could convince the public that oswald is the real assassin. Hoover also called the inexcusable that the Dallas Police department did little to prevent jack ruby from shooting oswald after the fbi warned oswald was a target. Other revelations, the soviet union thought the association was a coup attempt by americas far right and worried it would ultimately be blamed. President trump ordered the documents to be released thursday night hours before a Congress Imposed deadline set 25 years ago. But some are upset trump bowed to pressure from intelligence agencies keeping about 300 files secret. This is a huge disappointment and a total mess. I mean, you cant imagine a more disorderly release of these documents about a turning point in american history. Reporter trump wrote, i have no choice but to accept those redaxs rather than allow potentially irreversible harm to our nations security. A sentiment sure to give fuel to americans who believe the government is hiding something about the assassination. New deadline to release the remaining files is in six months. Chris pallone, nbc news. Today is the 14th annual Prescription Drug take back day. More than 4,000 tons of Prescription Drugs have been safely disposed of since the effort began. The goal is to get old or unwanted medications out of the house so they cannot be abused. There are hundreds of secure locations across the region. Were talking police stations, libraries, that kind of thing, where you can drop off the drugs. Today, it will cost you a little more to play megamillions but you could also win bigger prizes, but chances of winning will go down. Tickets will now cost 2 a piece up from 1. Jackpots will begin at 40 million instead of 15 million. And there will be fewer white balls and more red balls and that will make it more difficult to win. Megamillions says the changes will help it compete with powerball. All right. Lets start with a really wide view of our radar and satellite so i can show you what is going to cause that sunday soaker that we are forecasting. Right now fairly clear as we go throughout the day but otherwise dry. This is a cold front to our west, this is moving our direction. Down to the south, way south, were watching some tropical moisture. Its not a named storm yet but may become named as we go through today. Regardless if it does, that moistures going to come up this direction. Those two combined are going to meet right over our area. And the result is were looking at potential for heavy rain on our sunday and then very gusty conditions as we get into monday. Look at the weather setup right now. Theres the cold front i was talking about. We have warm air surging our direction. Right now were at 50, a mild start, by later today some of us will make it to the 70s. But this cold front earlier i had cool for the last cold fronts, i changed it to cold for this one. 23 in sioux city, were at 29 right now in kansas city. That cold air is moving our direction. So were going to see big changes as we get into the workweek. But for now 71 in philadelphia your afternoon high. 70 in the suburbs and 69 in delaware. Just a mix of clouds and sun in the afternoon, mostly sunny. This is a very nice forecast for today. Now lets talk about this, so heres the cold front heading our direction. Remember we have the moisture going to shrink in from the south. This is at 6 30 this evening and there it is starting to come in from the south. Then it starts to combine here. The question is if its a little further that that moisture center sits to the east that would mean a little less rain for us, but its a little closer our direction that means more rain for us. And watch as we go from shower chances sunday to spotty showers to more steady rain sunday afternoon. And then check this out, by sunday night heavy rain in the forecast. That heavy rain continues overnight just some lingering showers on your monday morning. And, yeah, that little pink indicates the possibility of maybe a little wintry mix farther north by monday morning because of much cooler air. So for the eagles forecast 65 degrees for us at 1 00 for kickoff, notice the chance of rain is persistent throughout the game. Not going to be constant necessarily but on off rain is possible and windy conditions as well. Those strong guntsts will be focused right across our whole area. So were talking high winds in
