Storm force 10 is out on the roads so that you can see what you can expect this morning we begin with meteorologist bill henley whos tracking the latest of this latest winter burst. This is center city. Broad street has been treated and cleared. You can see the median has a little bit of snow on it but those roads, the back roads, the sidewalks, the walkways will be slick this morning as the snow has fallen overnight and its still coming down. Some very light snowfall in the suburbs and into reading and allentown and the Lehigh Valley. We will see it end first thing this morning. In fact, by 7 15 this morning most of the snow will be done and it will melt during day. But at this hour look at the mp thes in the suburbs. 23 degrees in the Lehigh Valley. Anything thats falling is going to be sticking to surfaces, so be careful if youre going to be walking out the door this morning. New jersey is a bit warmer and delaware is dry. For philadelphia, well see those temperatures climb into the upper 30s this afternoon. And well get a lot of sunshine too and a drying breeze out of the northwest. So that will all combine to melt the snow away during the day today. Ill break all of those forecasts down hour by hour and show you what to expect for your day, but first pamela has an update from the first alert traffic center. Good morning. Were keeping an eye on the roadways this morning. If youre traveling 95 maybe trying to get to the airport you wont have any trouble, but when you get there philly international is under a Winter Weather advisory so some of those planes are having to be desid deic deiced. Allo of time when you get there as well. If you take the septa, the el win and west trenton lines are running two cars behind. Expect overcrowding, delays, they could be skipping some stops entirely as well. Allow yourself extra time as well. Bus 196 is skipping over skyline drive because of wintry conditions on the road. And you can see all the snow has been cleared off the road. A lot of the majors look like this but there are plenty of slick spots out there so you want to slow your speed and be careful. Ran randy, what are you seeing . Reporter we have been on roads throughout south jersey and the differences between the major roads and the minor ones. On highways its pretty clear, a lot of salt on the roads, its slick but not much snow on the ground. You can actually see a little bit of snow still on the ground. There has been some traffic moving through this neighborhood so youre seeing some of that pavement and that concrete coming back. Another thing to look for in these neighborhoods in addition to all the christmas lights, the cars parked on the side of the street completely covered with snow. It will takee you about 5 minuts or so to dust all this off. Its not going to be back breaking work but it might take you a little bit of time so budget a little bit of extra time to get your car clean off in the morning. Once you get out and start heading to work it looks good. There is a lot of traffic out there this morning. We have seen a lot of salt trucks and other crews working throughout the night so the roads are definitely manageable but just take it easy if youre heading out. Thanks if for that, randy. A st. Josephs University Student is in Critical Condition after a car hit her last night. The driver of the car did stay on the scene, but police say they took him into custody for allegedly driving under the influence. And a follow up to breaking news we brought you yesterday morning. Police say they found one of the people who took off from this deadly car crash. Theyre also working to identify whos involved. Police investigate whether she was the driver. This morning we are learning new details about a murder suicide on Penn States Beaver campus. The shooter lured his exwife to the school with a promise of Christmas Gifts for their churn. The campus is just west of pittsburgh. The university shut down the campus in the wake of the murder suicide. It is expected to reopen today. Finals however, are push back. The man shot and killed his exwife inside of a cafeteria where she worked. He then killed himself in the parking lot. Police are still investigating the incident. Snow is hampering some of their efforts to collect evidence. A family that should be reveling in the joy of the Holiday Season is in mourning today after a house fire claimed the lives of two young boys. Firefighters raced to a home yesterday morning. The Montgomery County sheriff says the home is owned by deputy bryan lukens. His wife and daughter survived but his 6 and 11yearold sons did not. I dont know what that family is going to do. Its the most horrible thing ive ever heard in my whole life. Three of the nicest kids youll ever meet. Its a shame. It hit me hard here. Go fund me page has been set up for the family. A school in Gloucester County thats been closed since october because of mold will remain closed until the end of the school year in june. Weve been following this since the beginning of the school year. A letter was sent home telling students about holy glen elementary school. Students from the school will continue attending classes at three other schools through the 20172018 school year. In addition to the mold cleanup the district says it will fix moisture and drainage issues and install a new hvac system. Temple University Police are investigating whos behind racist flyers that turned up on campus. A student posted this photo on twitter of one of three flyers discovered on campus. Yeah, problems for commuters but for skiers, snow boarders, not so much. They love what theyre seeing. Right . Yeah. It is snowing in the poconos, but the rest of the area nobody wants to do slipping and sliding but that is in store for you this morning. The snow still coming down in allentown. A slippery start. Temperatures are cold enough that anything that is falling is sticking this morning. The good news is the snow will end first thing this morning just after sunrise, which is at 7 15 this morning. We will see the snow end. Then clearing skies and breezy too. Well get sunshine and drying winds, so that snow will be melting away during the day and then a dry evening getting out and about. Youll just have to bundle up. It will be getting cold overnight tonight. As far as the snow is concerned, its starting to thin out in the pocono mountains and for the Lehigh Valley and the suburbs that snow isnt going to last much longer. Its drying out to the west. You can see that happening in harrisburg. So improving conditions. That being said, still some light snow in the Lehigh Valley and the suburbs and cold all around. These temperatures are well below freezing this morning. 27 degrees for el roy, mill ford. Youre not going to see much more in the way of snow. The reports that have come in so far are one to two inches, a bit more in the Lehigh Valley into the pocono mountains, but by 7 00 you see some snow falling in Central New Jersey and theres the tail end through the suburbs in philadelphia. Rain drops will end in delaware and south jersey. By 8 00 a few flurries and by 9 00 this morning the sunshine is going to be breaking through the clouds and well see more of that as we go into the afternoon hours. Thats at 11 30 in the morning and then at 3 00 in the afternoon we are dry and clear and it will be above freezing. Meantime in wayne, Delaware County, the snow is already on the ground. Some slippery conditions. The roads that have been treated or plowed should be pretty good, but those side streets, different story. The temperatures are in the 20s. So whats falling is sticking this morning. And the temperatures are still falling at this hour in philadelphia its just below freezing. Youll see some slippery spots. 28 degrees. 20s also in northeast philadelphia while society hill is 30 degrees right now. So a cold start, but the wind is going to be increasing during the day. Thats a drying wind and its going to kick the clouds out of here. So the last little bit of snow comes through this morning and the temperatures make a quick warmup into the upper 30s. Thats by later this morning and thats where theyll stay this afternoon because of the winds blowing. Its enough wind to make it feel like its in the 20s so youll still likely to have bundle up. But you will need your sunglasses. Hard to imagine this scene which is showing very light snow in chester county, heading toward Delaware County and montgomery and bucks county seeing some very light snow flakes as well. Dont expect to see much in the way of accumulation. Maybe another dusting in a few spots before it ends. You can see its already starting to end now in burks county so it wont be long and the snow will be completely out of here and we will get that sunshine. Clouds at 8 00 in philadelphia. By noontime, 38 degrees and 36 degrees at 4 00. Look at the sunshine and thats going to happen in the suburbs too from clouds and some snow flakes to partly sunny skies at noon to sunny skies in the afternoon. A few snow flakes at 8 00 and then its done in the Lehigh Valley. 32 degrees and thats about as warm as its going to get. Delaware up to 37 driegrees at lunchtime. You can see the clouds clearing out in new jersey. The snow thats on the ground first thing will be disappearing during the late morning and afternoon hours and the jersey shore, no problem. Its in the 40s and going to stay in the 40s at lunchtime. Just a little bit chillier this afternoon. The trend is for warmer temperatures as we head into the weekend. The weekend forecast will be above freezing for each part of our area and then look at sunday with clouds and sunshine up to 42 degrees in philadelphia. 39 in the suburbs and 40s for the Lehigh Valley.
