So this is a serious situation especially as we get into tonight, through tomorrow and into new years day with sub zero windchills across the area. Its just starting to move into the western philadelphia suburb, not reaching the ground but i would imagine in western Chester County were starting to see some of the first flakes. Track it hour by hour. Theres the wall of light snow. It will stay light the entire time, but just enough to c and g slippery as we go through the lunchtime hour. By 1 00 moving out of philadelphia, but still snowing at the jersey shore. Then well push this whole system out to sea by the time we get into later this evening. And then its all about the cold. Its a cold one out there right now. 18 is the feels like in blue bell. 11 in philadelphia, 17 in allentown. And as cold as these numbers seem, it will get even colder later on tonight. Snot one of those wet slushy systems. So that brush is going to come real handy later today as you go to clean off your car. The koltd weather, you also mentioned that makes the snow immediately stick to surfaces like the sidewalks and roads. It has been a pretty busy december for road crews in our area, but penndot tells us they have a big stockpile of salt, hundreds of thousands of tons to last through the winter. Highway will be the focus today. Theyll have a fleet of workers, krfrts out in force. But unlikely to put the blades down, not enough snow to plow but enough to cause some slick spots and trouble for drivers. So just unrelentless snow in erie. We dont have that kind of snow headed in our direction today. Heres a live look outside right now. This is in Lancaster County. This is a camera thats showing the ground is snow is falling. So our neighbors off to the west right now are dealing with that. You can see that on the Radar Network right now. Heres the snow, some of the heavier bands indicated with the darker blues now in Lancaster County starting to move into county. I would imagine youre starting to see some of the first flakes out there in the western end of the county towards the eastern end of the county its still dry enough i dont think the snowflakes are reaching the ground. But everywhere youll get in on the action between lets say 5 00 and 7 00 this morning. By 7 00 theres the snow off to the west. You can watcheast. So snowing along the pennsylvania turnpike, 476, 76, so if you are thi is a minor s there may be slippery spots just due to the pure coldness of the ground right now. Weve had temperatures in the teens much of the time over the last several days. So thats cold enough to have at spots. Well move that system out and then its all about the cold thereafter. Reporter but single digit windchills expected on monday were enough for Roberts Place in margate to put its yearly plunge on ice until january 7th. Its too cold just worried about somebody getting hurt. Were still going to be here. Still going to party. Reporter the polar bore plunge postponed until january 13th because of safety concerns. Certainly theres a risk for hypothermia with folks being wet and coming out of the water. I would say most people should not be doing this. So be very careful especially some of those hillier streets towards roxborough, manayunk. We have light snow in the poconos, i think thats being generated by machines but well see some of the natural stuff coming in shortly. Theres a chance some of these flurries reaching the ground. Its snowing lightly now in coatesville and snowing in Lancaster County right now. Thrrived in part of our viewing area and will continue to move off to the east and be snowing in philadelphia here probably within the next hour or two. Snowing in southern Chester County, now snow moving in south of wilmington. Its cold enough with this one we dont have to worry about any freezing rain or sleet with it. It will be purely fluffy snow moving on in here. Soou n see, 8 00 the snow continues and then it wraps up here pretty quickly right after lunchtime in philadelphia and north and west. To the south and east that snow witernn and even there it will taper off. Well have to see if we get one or two snow squalls working down from the north and west later on today, but they will be few and far between. Snow amounts generally between a coating and two inches in our neighborhoods. Right now its 16 in unionvillew where the light snow is falling. Were seeing temperatures around 15, 16 degrees in montgomery county. 15 in Fort Washington and 15 in new hope. So your forecast for today works out like this. Well see light snow coming in here, temperatures mid to upper 20s and, again, slippery conditions out on the roads. So the cold, the bitter cold that is arrives tonight. It lasts through tuesday. Windchills from 5 to 20 degrees below zero. That 20 below would be up in the poconos. Remember, people, pet and pipes in this weather. Take care of your neighbors, check in on family a your pets.
