A look at allentown area on the left i95. Anywhere from the pennsylvania suburbs to south jersey you can expect icy condition thos right. Watch for your Childs School at the bottom of your screen or check the nbc o meteorologist bill henley, the most accurate forecast in town. Both of those areas you showed are dry, but thats not going to last long. Weve issued a first alert for snow and ice. First the suburbs and new jersey, were seein a bit of snow but the biggest concern is icing this morning. Were going to see ice fall from the sky ask freeze on roads that are just below freezing. See icy roads and walkways are to knee ete this morning to 10 00 this tha. The upper suburbs and Lehigh Valley, until 3 00 this afternoon, accumulating snow and ice. Philadelphia International Reporting some light snow. You can see a snow shower inlaw. Wilmington a little bit of light snow falling into salem county. Gnaw recollect youre about to get some light snow. This large area of pink, thats icing. And this is moving into delaware, south jersey, and eventually it g into wilmington, philadelphia and the suburbs. Meantime, part of the north and west, you can see a few develop. The snow, thats going to be moving into these areas north and west. So a really depends on where you are. Theres light snow being reported in philadelphia international. 31 degrees, 20s for the suburbs and new jersey. And this is where we can see some icing, while the Lehigh Valley is going to see snow before ice arrives and eventually rain. Look in new jersey, 50 degrees. Were going toee a quicker change over from rain this morning. Youre going to definitely need your rain gear later today. Were seeing the first flakes in our headlights here. This is the first precipitation were seeing in the north and west neighborhoods of philadelphia. The surfaces have been pretreated. Theres salt here, but as we swing the camera around and show you germantown avenue, we arent seeing the pretreating on the roads through philadelphia that we typically see before a big snow event. Thats because as weve been telling you this is going to hit during a crucial time during the morning rush, but the amount is not the most weve seen from past events. So i can tell you the germantown avenue is bit tricky because of the cobblestone and bricks. Just from Prior Experience this can get pretty slick. Were going to leave here and head south to Delaware County now. Well be on route one on some of hat the rs. Roads are looking like. Septa only making 50,000 tickets available. Dedication, look at that. And in delaware people waited in long lines there at the wilmington train station to buy special septa passes. If youre coming in from south jersey patco will limit the stations in use. Itll provide only Westbound Service to center city. Youll have to use the lindenple wold, wood yes, ferry avenue or broadw broadway stations to get there. After the parade patco will switch to eastbound only Service Using those same stops. Heres a live look down broad street on the left of your screen and ben franklin parkway on the right. Tomorrow morning both of these stretches will be packed. And now lets take a liook at te parade route. It heads down broad street. The city hall, will go down the west side of city hall and around jfk boulevard. Take a right on 16th street and finally it makes its way on the ben franklin parkway and end at the art museum steps. Im meteorologist bill henley keeping a close eye on our area for icy conditions this morning and some snow, too, in colder neighborhoods north and west. Were tracking some very light snow and ice right now. During the day today we will see it change over. The atmosphere warms going to change to rain. But we could be in for heavy rain into this afternoon and this evening. And finally clear out tonight. So improving conditions overnight tonight, but this is an all day system. And unfortunately, its starting with cold temperatures just below freezing in will mng and philadelphia as light icing is starting to move into these areas right now. 18 decrease in the poconos mountains, 0s in allentown. Thats where were going to see a better amount of snow accumulating. The now, this light snow wont icing will likely cause some problems. As its moving intoing to warm. Temperatures are starting to creep up even before sunrise, but im conrn ground is still so well see very slippery conditions for commute this morning. Also in philadelphia this is going to be moving to the north, philadelphia, the suburbs and eventually well see that icing in the Lehigh Valley. But its going to start off as snow for reading and allentown and the upper suburbs as well. See itor this is 8 00 this morning. Changes over to rain in delaware and south jersey, and thats going to wash away any icing. But theres still that narrow band for northern new castle and even into bucks county and upper Burlington County thats icing at 8 00. And watch how that line slowly lifts at 8 00 and 10 00 this s, but its going to take a long time for conditions to improve especially north and west. Meteorologist krystal klei to take a look at how much ice and snow to expect. The good news is its not looking like a ton of either, but the bad nize is it can cause a ton of issues during that morning commute. Looking outside right now, and what weve got are roads that are still dry but not going to stay dry for that much longer. As we now saw just a moment ago with bill on the radar, were seeing that ice potential start to move in. Not giving us a lot. 0. 03 of an inch in philadelphia, and nums even a very small amount of ice can cause those slippery conditions. That is the concern that it may be at least patchy in areas during your morning drive. Snow potential, i dont think well see anything along the 95 corridor. Better chance as we go towards over half a foot in the poconos. Even a small amount of snow if it turns over to ice, makes that bit of crunchiness, which is better to drive on. Temperaturewise, upper 2s to right around the low 30s, youll see youre still at 30 at 9 00 a. M. Thats why were concerned about that icing starting at 6 00 to 7 00 and by 8 00 to 9 00ome possible accumulation. So please take it slow and both hands on the w get out the door today. The biggest concern will be ice that will make for a slippery commute to work or school. Heres a live look at allentown which could get 3 to four inches down is onto. Theres a lot of things, of course, different here in south korea. The language, the culture, the food is certainly different. But one thing that was quite familiar the service men and women in our armed forces in america here serving in south korea. South korea, by the way, the Third Largest military presence in the world. For perspective there are more service men and women here than in afghanistan. We ran into Intelligence Specialist blake taylor who grew up in montgomery county. Im doing well here. We talked about visiting the dnc, what is that like . He described it as surreal. And now our crew can attest to that. We took a trip to the dmz. The last train to krause that border was 60 years ago during the korean war. It got more than 1,000 bullet ho ended up derailing it. Were going to talk about what our trip was like to the dmz, and what it was like to cross that border into north korea. I can say right now at least it was nerveracking, it was eye opening and yes as justin b said, it was surreal. We look forward to hearing about that. We now have 174 schools either closed or delayed because of this weather moving in. This is the reason we do neighborhood weather. Were going to see a wide range of condition. First starting off dry in philadelphia. Weve seen a few snowflakes in philadelphia, but most of the wet weather is still on the way. Still looking at a slippery commute for most of our area. Farther north and west is going to be snow and then ice and accumulating snow. Im see aggood sign here were now up to freezing. Temperatures have been climbing. Were not out of the woods yet, and theres still neighborhoods below freezing in Chestnut Hill frozen, so be on the look out. Very light snow there. You can see it on the first alert radar is falling in south jersey as well. And really not all that concerned about this first bit of snow. And this is the larger concern. Theitesing you can see in delaware and south jersey. But also notice thats just rain falling in delaware and south jersey right along the coastline. Thats warmer air thats going to eventually push into the rest of the area. I mean the entire area will see a warm up during the day. So the conditions will be changing, but this icing through Cumberland County and Atlantic County right nu, thats going to be a great concern for the morning commute. So theres a largeair of ice for the morning commute, while itll start off as snow and accumulating for the Lehigh Valley county and berks county and the upper suburbs well see it eventually change over, too. Any icing is going to be washing away, and not expecting a lot of ice, but really dont need a lot to make for some slippery conditions. And at 8 00 this morning still a potential for some icing in philadelphia and pushes to the north. We get a break from precipitation this morning but that break does not last. Look at the rain sweeping into the area, and its going to be a heavy rain thats even going to reach into the Lehigh Valley and possibly the poconos mountains. First the ice potential. By 9 00 this morning, just a little bit of ice to make a slippery for delaware, the suburbs and philadelphia, too. The snow potential, by 8 30, this morning, an inch in allentown. By the time the snow comes to an end, 3 inches in altlentown. And yes, the rain totals could be impressive. We could see them top an inch in allentown and close to an inch in south jersey. The good news is its all out of here tonight. So in great shape just in case anybody is going to the parade tomorrow. Its going to be sunny, and a little chilly and making it feel like its in the teens at 11 00. But i dont think anyones worried about the cold. A few extra layer of green will take care of it. Were going to be all warm inside. Lets get a look at the blue route this morning. Jessica boyington has you covered. Jessica . Watching the blue route and the schuylkill expressway for any problems, and not seeing any so far. Speaking of the schuylkill, the schuylkill looks good, too. 95 has no problems with the drive times. 11 minutes at the most on the northbound side. Speeds there into the 60s. And end here with bridges. We had an earlier opening at the bristol bridge. By the time you head out the door, you should be fine there. And wash for a crash on the eastbound side moving into new jersey. So watch for some delays eastbound. The rest of the bridges are okay. Clear over the tacony ppalmyra. Talk about guts and confidence, the eagles worked on the most famous play of the super bowl for weeks. And it was actually nick foles that suggested they run it in the final minute of the half.
