Week recognizes hard work by 911 response teams National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is being celebrated April 11-17 by Bryan County 911. The week, sponsored by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials International and celebrated annually, honors the thousands of men and women who respond to emergency calls, dispatch emergency professionals and equipment, and render life-saving assistance. Recent events have highlighted the work of telecommunications professionals at the Bryan County 911 center, according to Jodie Jernigan, 911 Communications Director for Bryan County Sheriff's Office. Telecommunicators have worked hard during the Covid-19 pandemic. Many of the operators have contracted Covid-19 themselves or members of their family. "This has been taxing to our center to keep the shifts running to help the public," Jernigan said. "At times as many as three fulltime operators were out and one part-timer all at the same time. This was during the Christmas and New Years holiday time."
