Westland is considering turning one of the city's unused schools into a 120,000-square-foot recreation center. Mayor Bill Wild said Marshall Upper Elementary, which the Wayne-Westland school district closed last year, has potential to become a recreation, senior and community space. “I think it would just be dynamite if we could use it for a recreation center," he said. "It’s centrally located right in the middle of the city, and I think it could really be a great addition to the city’s assets.” Presently, the city offers some recreational opportunities through its senior center, but it does not have a separate recreation center.
