DID you know that ‘garda’ is one of the most frequently used ‘Irish’ words?! And that overall, there are nearly 300 words in the Oxford English dictionary that relate to the Irish language?! WIT languages expert Dr Chris Mulhall has described how there are many ‘types’ of Irish people mentioned in the dictionary. A lot of it, he said, had somewhat negative overtures too, with words like ‘gombeen’ and ‘sleeven’ amongst those listed!
