WhatsApp petition: Judge recuses from hearing petition again

While Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma said there was no better bench to hear the case, Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi -- appearing for WhatsApp -- asked for the matter to be listed before a Single Judge Bench.
However, directing that the case be treated as a Public Interest Litigation, Justice Singh asked for it to be listed before a different bench for hearing on Monday.
Justice Singh had in 2016 appeared on behalf of some WhatsApp users against the messaging app's privacy policy which had allowed data sharing with Facebook.
Upholding its privacy policy at the time, the Delhi HC had however directed the company to erase the data of users who had chosen to delete their accounts.
