So, it has come to this: A washing machine with a paid(!) app subscription. While smart features may not be a main reason to buy an appliance, they are a convenience … but, a convenience we're not sure we want to pay for. In its
Whirlpool WTW7120HC (available at Home Depot for $1,099.00), Whirlpool charges users a monthly subscription fee to access the machine's smart features and app after the first six months, which allows for remote start, notifications, and diagnostics. Beyond this, the WTW7120HC is has decent cleaning power, and its built-in faucet and pretreating brush are excellent features that make it easier to take care of your clothes. While there is a lot to like about the WTW7120HC, at the time of this review, this washer costs about $1,099 and this is a bit too expensive to whole-heartedly recommend. A price drop of about $300 is more in line with what it offers. We also recommend researching the LG WM3700HWA, which doesn’t have all the WTW7120HC’s features but does get clothes much cleaner.
