Whitman-Hanson mock crash illustrates dangers of impaired driving

WHITMAN — A mother crying out for her daughter. A student taking field sobriety tests. A hearse carrying the body of a teenager killed in a crash.
These were some of the scenes that played out Wednesday morning on the campus of Whitman-Hanson Regional High School during a mock crash demonstration held ahead of the school's senior prom scheduled for May 7.
Hanson Police Chief Michael Miksch said the night of senior prom is a time when officers often see a spike in underage drinking, which can lead to serious and sometimes-fatal crashes.
To educate students on the dangers of impaired driving, the Whitman-Hanson Regional School District, Hanson Fire Department, Hanson Police Department, Whitman Fire Department and Whitman Police Department sponsored a mock crash demonstration on Wednesday.
