Why this Somerville MA theater company has thrived in the past year

Theatre@First, a community theater based in Somerville, has thrived over the course of the past year.
One of the keys to its success during the COVID era is that it is volunteer-driven.
“No one’s livelihood was on the line,” said Artistic Director Elizabeth Hunter. “No one got fired. No one got furloughed. No one had to worry where rent and food were coming from at Theatre@First."
“We have a few fixed costs, but we don’t own our own building, and we don’t have a standing rental agreement with anybody. That flexibility has served us really well.”
