A woman is dead, shot in broad daylight in the 200 block of North Lincoln Street in Springfield.
Deputy Police Chief Josh Stuenkel says police in the area, responding to a call of shots fired, saw someone lying in a front yard and another with a handgun.
The coroner was called to the scene. Stuenkel says after attempting to negotiate with the alleged gunman, police shot a beanbag at him and took him into custody.
Area schools were notified. At least two, Sacred Heart – Griffin High School and Dubois Elementary, were placed on a short soft lockdown.
