Worcester Magazine Yes, racism is a public health issue - Tuesday marked the anniversary of George Floyd’s murder and a tipping point in how we view race in this country. It seems fitting that the day before this milestone, significant support was thrown behind the creation of a Civilian Review Board with subpoena powers. On Monday, the Worcester Board of Health unanimously voted to join Black Families Together and the local branch of the NAACP, along with 18 other community groups in supporting the measure. This isn’t the first time that the BoH has discussed police accountability and hopefully won’t be the last. In fact its July meeting will take community testimony once again and ask how Worcester can become the best anti-racist city in the country. Critics say that the board has no business in this matter — and should focus on traditional health issues relating to COVID or substance abuse. The thing is, systemic racism
