Septa and patco started selling passes today for the week of the popes visit and the world meeting of families and if you got your hands on one, consider yourself lucky. John rawlins live in Chestnut Hill this afternoon and john as far as septa is concerned lets just say this didnt exactly go as planned. Reporter hi, alicia. Its hard to pitch this as anything as a pretty serious stumble out of the gate. Septa has 350,000 of those passes to sell. It managed to sell just 201 thats twozeroone today before its e commerce site crashed. I think we had about a triple the amount of people that we thought would come to the site so what we decided to do is to suspend the site until further notice. Reporter online sales for the papal rail passes began at 9 00 a. M. Within minutes the twitterverse was alive with complaints. At one point the cue for Customer Service phone calls to septa ballooned to 75. Many worried there was something wrong with their computers. Computers, they were frustrated. They were frustrated and they were afraid that maybe it was already sold out. Reporter that was not the case of course. Septas special e commerce site was the culprit. Over the weekend, consultants had tested it for a massive response. At one point they were flooding the system with up to 1700 hits per second and we also had up to and this is a testing mode, 900,000 visits to our site and it worked. But, you know, this morning it did not. Reporter ironically septa set up its special online papal weekend reservation system to avoid confusion for riders. By drastically restricting the number of Regional Rail stations that will be opened to just a handful and using reserve tickets the goal is still to avoid scenes at stations like this. This is from the 2008 phillies world series parade day where crowds of would be riders were stranded unable to board jammed trains. The hope is todays problem will be fixed. No one needs to panic. Were going to suspend the system and then fix the tweaks fix the issues and then begin sales again as soon as possible. Reporter so for now a post mortem of what went wrong today. The preliminary indications are it was just overwhelmed by numbers, that this was not a case of somebody making a malicious hack and then tomorrow we should hear from septa as to what the game plan will be as far as resuming sales of those passes. Live in Chestnut Hill, john rawlins, channel6 action news. Alicia. All right, john, thank you. Patco also started selling special freedom cards for the papal visit today. And of course we first told you about septas pass problems today on our special twitter account thats dedicated to the popes visit. The city of wilmington is helping some people stay cool in this tremendous heat today. The senior fan drive is for people over the age of 65 who dont have access to air conditioning this summer. Action news was at the pickup office today inside the reading City Building on north front street again in wilmington. Its opened monday through friday until 4 00 in the afternoon and to qualify for a fan you do need to prove that you do in fact, live in wilmington. And it is just beastly hot out there. It is yes brutal and beastly would be accurate. We go over to meteorologist adam joseph tracking this weather and these conditions can be pretty dangerous for people out there. That beach looks like a good place to be. A Perfect Place to be to kind of break away from this really uncomfortable heat. As we look live on sky6 right now in cape may you can see the flags there are blowing inland meaning that the sea breeze has kicked in to some shore Communities Health some with the air helping some with the air temperature but it is still very uncomfortable how it feels even with the sea breeze. Feels like 103 in Sea Isle City t you head to the boardwalk in Atlantic City a little more on shore wind it feels like 85 degrees there 98 in beach haven and then as you head inland you can see 97 in millville, 98 in philadelphia, 94 in the Lehigh Valley so these numbers are not as high as they were yesterday. Thats the good news and they will continue to drop as we go later into the week. In fact, our dewpoints right now are 68 in philadelphia, 70 allentown, 68 in reading, 72 in Atlantic City. Any time these numbers are at 70 or above, it is oppressive out there and just adds to that very soupy summer atmosphere. But as we move forward into the week, tomorrow those dewpoints will drop again so it starts to turn drier on tuesday. As we go to 65 which is still humid but not oppressive and then by wednesday thursday, friday saturday, were in the 50s which is very comfortable for the Summer Season. In fact, this stretch of weather wednesday through the beginning of the weekend will be some of the nicest weve seen back to back this entire Summer Season. Satellite and radar, we have a cold front to our north and west but very little in the way of energy with it. So even though we have the heat and the humidity combined with the cold front approaching you would think we would have a huge eruption of storms but really that is not the case. We have a couple of little downpours that are popping. One just moved through salem right now now moving east of quaker neck road and route 49 just to the south and east of salem. Some heavy rain with that but it is beginning to fall apart but that is the only area on double scan getting wet at the present time. So as we go through the hours of the overnight were going to be in the upper 60s to mid 70s especially philadelphia down to the south. Very uncomfortable tonight. Warm and very muggy. There could be a stray downpour or thunderstorm to pop up in a couple of locations but most areas will stay dry and then future tracker temperatures tomorrow afternoon 93 philadelphia. A nice sea breeze at the shore, 70s to low 80s. Only 88 in allentown. So we wont have excessive heat for another day tomorrow. Thats the good sign and then as we go to wednesday afternoon, the Le
