Anything and tonight as the Camden County man is sentenced his family is still maintaining hes innocent. Sporting a new short haircut instead of his long ponytail david d. J. Creato entered a Camden County courtroom for sentencing in the 2015 death of his son threeyearold Brendan Creato of haddon township. Creato made a plea deal with prosecutors weeks before his second trial where was to start in december admitting to aggravated manslaughter. He said he deprived brendan of oxygen but didnt say how. He lied to the police. He lied to his parents. Worst of all he he lied to brendans mother who certainly had a right to know exactly what had happened to her son. Reporter a 14 minute video was played showing dozens of photos from brendans short life. It was silent. Court rules dont permit music. Creato declined to say anything before the judge sentenced him to 10 years in prison. After the sentencing his family maintains hes innocent. He took the plea bargain and my life and i and a lot of family and friends still believe in his innocence. He agrees that its his recklessness that led to this. Hes accepting responsibility for that end of what occurred here but that is a very different situation from saying i know what happened and im responsible for everything that happened. Reporter Samantha Denoto and christine she was had no comment as they left the courtroom. Prosecutors read a statement from djs maternal grandmother saying that she thinks the little boy was a angel and they hopes one day creato will say exactly what happened to the toddler and why. Meantime given the time hes already served creato could be out of jail in six and a half years. Live in camden, im nora muchanic, channel6 action news. Nora, thank you.
