The fire broke out on the fifth floor of this sixfloor building around 11 45 last night at the colonials apartments West Building on the 800 block of Cooper Landing road in cherry hill. The Cherry Hill Fire Department and Mutual Aid Companies responded. When police and fire crews got here they started going door to door telling residents they had to get out. Several apartments were damaged in the fire. Residents say inside the building was smoky and when they got out they saw the flames on those upper floors. At first some residents thought it might be a false alarm but they soon realized this was a real emergency. I heard a knock on the door that said hey, get out and then they were like i was like okay, this is real. We got the dogs out. They were outside thank god but our apartment did have a lot of smoke in it. It was so bad, too bad. And the fire was coming out of the balcony. Kelly Elementary School in philadelphias germantown section is closed for another day as crews work to get rid of mold there. Classes were first canceled last thursday when traces of mold were found in several classrooms. The School District says kelly will reopen tomorrow. And most students will also return to school after a mold outbreak in a Monroe Township School District in south jersey. A young mother is in jail this morning suspected but not charged in the suspicious deaths of her two young boys in wilmington. Were unis one is said to be five years old, the other a few months old. Police were called to the 800 block of west ninth street to check on the well being of those children. Officers found the boys dead but also smelled a strong odor of gas. A group of adults and children from the neighborhood held a vigil outside the home last night. I had this terrible feeling was it the little boy with the dreads this cute tiny little boy was it him cause he would come around all the time and always ask to play with the today. Dog. Im broken hearted. The police chief says it appears the boys drowned but theyre waiting for the medical Examiners Office to rule on the cause of death. An update on a stroke of bad luck for the sugar house casino. Workers scrambled to fix a problem that shut down all the slot machines. Gamblers reported they could not withdraw their winnings. Action news confirmed overnight that the casino has repaired the malfunction. A hearing will be held in harrisburg today on philadelphias beverage tax. City controller Alan Butkovitz released his findings from talking to store owners. He claims that the taxes brought down revenue by 60 percent at the businesses included in his survey. The city could have achieved the same revenues and funded many of its promised programs by sustaining the wage tax at its current rate instead of a bait and switch that took place with the beverage tax. Mayor jim kenneys office shot back saying philadelphias residents and the entire Business Community support the reduction of the wage tax because unlike the soda tax, its a tax that everyone has to pay and it suppresses job growth and business attraction to philadelphia.
