A Philadelphia Police officer was injured this afternoon as he tried to rescue an 80yearold woman from a dog attack and a ricocheting bullet somehow hit him in the leg. The wounded officer has just been identified as kevin fay of the 39th district, thats kevin fay. Hes left for home moments ago with his wife after treatment here at temple. Hes in Good Condition tonight after a harrowing experience saving the life of an 80yearold woman. Just after 12 00 30 this Afternoon Police came to this house at 29th and judson responding to a report of a vicious dog attack. When they got inside they found a pitbull mangling an 80yearold resident of the house. The dog lived there too, police say. While in the course of striking that dog, one officer was struck with what we believe was a ricochet. Fortunately that officer is going to be okay. He sustained a superficial wound to his right chin. Reporter the 80yearold female who lives here and the target of the attack is not doing well suffering from multiple bites on her lower body. Theyre being called significant injuries. Our officer is doing well and he decided hes going to be good and probably going home and were really worried about the citizen who was really torn up pretty badly by this dog and i think our officers saved her life and hopefully she can hang on. Reporter for the record, the dog was killed. The investigation goes forward. And just moments ago, the 24yearold officer from the 39th district was released from the Temple University hospital and with his wife, is expecting a child, could be seen leaving for their home in the northeast.
