Despite the snowfall, many still out, braving the elements, to get their Holiday Shopping done. I think it sucks. But you have to come out and shop. Reporter and down south, digging out. Wind chills in the teens in atlanta. Across parts of central florida, wind chill advisories. Thats the big thing with this. How cold and snowy it is right now. Across the southeast. For those who wish for a white christmas, you got it a couple of weeks early. Enjoy it. Much more coming up. Guys, back up to you. Well see you in a bit, rob. Glad youre staying warm. Its a much different scene on the west coast. We want to turn to those devastating wildfires. Home owners are returning to neighborhoods, or whats left of them. Californias governor saying this could be the new normal. Areas deal with another problem. Air quality. Marci gonzalez is in Ventura County with more. Marci, good morning. Reporter guys, good morning. The big priority is protecting lives and preventing more destruction. Home after home, nearly leveled. And out in front, we keep seeing this. These charred holiday decorat n decoratio decorations. Signs of how the timing of these fires make the devastation that much worse. And right now, flames are moving closer to even more homes. This morning, firefighters in Southern California working tirelessly to keep hold of the progress made in the last couple of days. Firefighters are taking advantages of breaks in the wind. Reporter 4 of the 6 wildfires are now more than 75 contained. The main focus on the massive thomas fire that grew overnight. 155,000 acres now scorched. Thats more than the size of chicago. It is only 15 contained. Right now, firefighters are intentionally burning some of the dry brush to try to control the wildfires direction before it reaches the active power lines. Nearby, as flamed moved closer to homes, new Evacuations Ordered saturday. Others were lifted. Teresa returning to where the home she lived in for more than four decades once stood. Nothing left of the room that my dad built by hand. Reporter 15,000 other homes remain at risk. Some of the evacuated residents allowed to briefly return to grab belongings. Were very, very lucky. The house is still standing. A lot of neighbors around us are not. Reporter smoke lingering in the area. Bringing air quality to hazardous levels. It is a horror. And its a horror we want to minimize. We cant minimize it. We want to recover from it as quickly as possible. Reporter and more evacuations were just ordered this morning. With concerns these flames could keep spreading. Because, as you may be able to see and hear, the winds are picking up. Expected to gust to 50 miles an hour today. Tom and paula . The winds picking up not good news. Marci, thank you. We want to move now to the Important Senate race in alabama. The eyes of the nation are tracking the pending showdown on tuesday between republican candidate roy moore and his democrat challenger doug jones. Abcs Stephanie Ramos joins us live from birmingham. Good morning. Reporter tom and paula, good morning. Here in alabama, the campaign ads from both the roy moore and doug jones camps have been nonstop. But in the last few days, leading up to election tuesday, jones has really stepped up his events across the state. While roy moore is clearly trying to avoid the press. This morning, Embattled Alabama Senate candidate roy moore getting an extra boost from his most prominent supporter. So get out and vote for roy moore. Reporter just two days after fully endorsing moore, President Trump recording an automated phone message going out today to alabama voters, saying if alabama elects liberal democrat doug jones, all of our progress will be stopped full. Roy moore is the guy we need to pass our make America Great again agenda. Despite the highprofile support, moore, who has been accused of Sexual Misconduct with several underage girls, that has gone silent himself, with just two days to go in the highstakes race. Any election is always about contrast. There are a lot of them in this race. Okay . Reporter and overnight, his democratic challenger, doug jones, taking aim, saying moore is hiding out. Roy moore will not answer the question, well, hell, he doesnt answer any questions anymore. Reporter jones trying to motivate black and white voters in the deep red state to get out and vote, saying this is a time for change. Releasing this latest campaign ad. Roy moore lied to attack nine courageous alabama women. Now hes lying about doug jones, too. Doug jones has put the ku klux klan in jail. No one else has been able to do that. But he did it. I like his vibe. I like his policy, what he stands for. Like that hes completely opposite of roy moore. Reporter doug jones is trying hard to become the first democrat elected to the u. S. Senate in 25 years. And so many of the supporters that i spoke with last night, they say they think its possible. Tom . Paula . They are expecting it to be quite a tight race. Stephanie, thank you. The other big story from the world of politics. President trump greeted by protests as he arrived to speak at the opening of the mississippi civil rights museum. Yeah, some prominent civil rights leaders and elected officials were noshows. Abcs david wright has more for us. David, good morning. Reporter good morning, tom and paula. The president was solemn and respectful in his brief visit to the civil rights museum. His presence enraged some civil rights activists who see him as part of the problem. From the moment air force one touched down at jacksons medgar evers airport. No hate. All in our state reporter crowds of people called the president out. As a modern example of the evils they struggle to overcome. He does not represent civil rights. He represents racism. He represents misogyny. He represents xenophobia. Reporter because trump was here, some of the nations most prominent civil rights leaders stayed away. Congressman john lewis for one called trumps presence an insult. Other local leaders held a separate event nearby. Rather than appear with the president. We will not allow the history of those who sacrificed so much to be tarnished for political expediency. Reporter they cited his equivocal response to White Supremacists to the situation in charlottesville. Hatred, bigotry, and violence, on many sides. On many sides. Reporter at the new museum, trump paid his respects, alongside the widow of medgar evers. Very strong. How are you . Thank you so much. Highly respected. Reporter trump seemed humbled by the courage and sacrifice of the young naacp organizer who was shot in the back by a kkk member and is now a civil rights icon. He was a Great American hero. That is what others honored in this museum were. True american heroes. Today, we strive to be worthy of their sacrifice. Reporter trumps message saturday, one of inclusion. We want our country to be a place where every child, from every background, can grow up free from fear. Innocent of hatred. And surrounded by love, opportunity, and hope. Reporter and despite the backlash, his own supporters gave him credit for coming. Most of us support him trying to do the right thing. Nobody is perfect. But at least hes trying. Reporter now, mississippi really was ground zero for much of the civil rights movement. People had hoped that that museum would unite people all these years later. But the wounds from that era are still open. Many people think the president hasnt helped. Tom . Paula . David wright for us this morning. We want to head overseas now to the scenes of violence this morning following President Trumps announcement to recognize jerusalem as israels capital. Demonstrators clashing with police in front of some u. S. Embassies in other areas of the middle east. James longman has more. Reporter paula, tom, good morning. I dont know if you can see behind me. There are still groups of palestinian youths assembling. There have been protests this morning between the Israeli Security and these groups of young men. Not just here in the region. But further afield. From jakarta to beirut. People have come out to protest. This issue. It really is a rallying cry for muslims around the world. We have seen shocking images out of the lebanese capital outside the u. S. Embassy there. Demonstrating and being dispersed by riot police with water cannon and tear gas. This is as arab nations appeal to the rest of the world to recognize East Jerusalem as the capital of the future palestinian state. We now know through the leader of the Palestinian Authority that Mahmoud Abbas may not meet with Vice President pence. If the move was to result in peace for the region, it has done anything but. James longman. Thank you. We want to bring in Martha Raddatz who will host this week later this morning. Good morning. Good morning, guys. Lets pick up on the beat of jerusalem. This is something other president s had wanted to do. The reaction not popular globally. Do you expect other countries will join the u. S. . Recognizing jerusalem as the capital of israel . I have to the say, paula. I think thats a stretch. The comments have been very, very strong from our european allies. From arab leaders around the world. Its been pretty much universally condemned. President trump did leave open a twostate solution. Saying if they decide something different, thats up to them. But, i think a lot of people will tell you, it might be much more difficult to do that now. We have had president s in the past say they want to do the this. Basically, later, they were convinced that wasnt a very good idea because of exactly the kinds of scenes youre seeing there now. Martha, lets turn back to home. The senate race in alabama. Ive been covering it. What stuck out for me, roy moore has made no public appearances since tuesday. Now the president is making robocalls. He was openly supporting moore at fridays rally. Does moore even need to be out there at this point . The fak that he hasnt appeared in public for the last couple of days, as you heard stephanie report. I think one of the reasons is he doesnt have to at this point. Hes got the support of President Trump. Its a tight race. But hes relying on President Trump and others to speak for him. Yeah, seems the risk outweighs the reward at this point. Martha, have a great show. Thank you for joining us. Martha will have much more on the Alabama Senate race, including an interview with roy moores chief political strategist. Plus the view from the ground in alabama. All coming up on this week. We want to go back to rob with another look at the weather. Hi, there, rob. Hey, guys. Boy, its great to be out here. Its a brisk morning. The first snowfall of the season, getting you in the mood for the holidays. Hope you feel the same way. That little clipper is a hit for us early Tuesday Morning, mainly before dawn and its not much. A little snow up north, rain probably in philadelphia. The snow from yesterday is over right now. Weve got sunshine coming up. Look out for some icy patches and snowy sidewalks and side streets here and there as temperatures are still below freezing. Your exclusive accuweather 7day, plenty of sunshine a high of 41. A brisk breeze. Just light stuff at night. As to why theyre doing it. Speaking of which, tom, youre one of the hardest working guys in television. Sounds like your kids are flatout lazy. Tell them to wake up, play in the snow today before it goes away. It was so depressing. I threw a snowball at myself. There was though one to play with. They were passed out in the stroller. Why dont the two of you go for a jog after the show. You probably missed. Good teambuilding. Rob take a run back inside. Well see you in the next half hour.
