WPVI Action News At 530 AM December 12, 2017

Precipitation right now. The Weather Center shows you cloud cover a plenty as we go into the morning commute and theres some snow shower activity up in new york state and a little bit of this up in the poconos but around here, it has been rain so far and not a whole lot of it. Storm tracker6 live double scan shows you just some light showers and sprinkles that appear to be breaking apart as they cross the delaware bay and were you shall into parts of south jersey around dover. Organized material down by baltimore but whether or not that can maintain that sort of widespread formation as it pushes up into places like Chester County is a bit of a question and i will point out that way up north and out to the northwest thats where you get the changeover to snow but temperatures in our neck of the woods are too mild for that this morning. For example, in allentown, were still at 39 degrees, well above freezing. 35 in trenton a little cooler there. 43 in philadelphia, 42 in wilmington and 45 in millville, new jersey. Careful if theres a little rain drop on your windshield but no icy stuff this morning. It stays mild today t noon 45. 3 oclock 46. Im expecting a high around 47, say, 2 00, 2 30 but then look how quickly the numbers drop. By 7 oclock tonight down to the freezing mark and the plunging from there with winds rising. On the bus stop this morning, kids bundle up a little bit and maybe a spotty shower but i dont think its a heavy rain so a hood probably does it. 42 on the bus stop in philadelphia. 38 in some suburbs. Take a look at temperatures out to the west of us, though. We have a big dome of cold air that is pushing down past chicago getting in towards cincinnati and saint louis and this will be shifting toward the east later this afternoon, tonight and especially tomorrow. Karen, bitter wind chills on the way. Ill have those numbers from accuweather coming up. I feel really bad that im going to be off tomorrow cozy in bed when youre outside in those bitter winds. Sad, sad day. Lets take a look outside here. This is the blue route approaching the schuylkill. Youre good to go this morning. Were dry through the region. The suspect pulled out a gun and opened fire. According to police at least 12 shots were fired from a semi automatic gun at very close range. Found 12 spent shell casings, some just inches, some just feet from where the victim had collapsed. So, it appears that the shooter was firing from very close proximity to the victim. Reporter okay, now police say they do have Surveillance Video of most of this happening including a clear image of the suspect. So were hopeful for an arrest to happen soon. For now reporting live in olney, bob brooks channel6 action news. Matt, back to you. Thank you, bob. Love the feature here on action news especially this time offer. No kidding, i love those stories. And im liking this morning okay for one reason. Its a little damp out there in spots but were well above freezing so were not looking at any ice out there this morning, at least not locally. Up in the poconos that could be a different story. Storm tracker6 live double scan shows that you very scattered light precipitation. All of this highlighted in lighter shades of green for the most part with the exception of that batch of rain out by harrisburg which is showing some darker shades of green and then a changeover to snow but thats all out there in the upper elevations around pottsville. Locally were just too warm to support any of that. But obviously you might catch a little sprinkle as you head into work this morning in a couple of spots. As we take a look outside, we have cloudy skies across the region. That includes over the airport and its chilly out there. Youll want a decent coat but not below the freezing mark and again, no icing concerns this morning. Your temperature is 43 degrees currently in philadelphia. Well above the freezing mark. Winds out of the south at 11 miles per hour. And as we take a look at future tracker, it does look like most of our precipitation this morning will be rain and by 8 oclock, probably starting to die down a little bit. Now, by 12 oclock, as a front gets a little bit closer to us there could be another line or two of instability showers developing. Colder air will eventually march in later this afternoon after about 3 oclock or so behind a passing cold front and some instability precipitation at that point, say, 4, 5 oclock, could actually change over to the white stuff. And you could get a brief snow shower or flurry, especially north. That would be the best chance and thats later this afternoon. Later tonight it looks like thats pretty much out of the picture. Temperatures are going to go in a bit of a ride today. Were going to climb for awhile. 42 degrees by 8 oclock. 44 by 10 oclock. 45 by noon. And even by 3 oclock, 46 likely coming down from a high around 47 but look at how quickly we drop. That cold air comes in behind a front and by 6 oclock were down to 35. By 7 oclock i could see us down to the freezing mark so mild for awhile today but then the winds pick up and those numbers really plunge. Here are the afternoon highs you can enjoy for awhile anyway. 46 in allentown, 47 in reading. These numbers hitting early in the afternoon. 47 by about 3 oclock in philadelphia, 50 in millville and youll probably be holding onto those low 50s longer by the shore before the plunge comes. Heres that plunge. Futurefuture tracker6 showing yu temperatures at 4 30 this afternoon and look at how they drop overnight. By 7 30 in the morning on wednesday down to 22 degrees. And the wind chills, the winds picking up. Remember, this is going to be part of the problem overnight and tomorrow. A 38 dream wind chill at 4 oclock this afternoon. But by 7 oclock tomorrow morning, it feels like six in philadelphia and in the afternoon, only the teens. And were only going to get a high of about 32 tomorrow. Heres your exclusive accuweather 7day forecast, today 47 with those numbers really dropping quickly during the afternoon. Hanukkah arriving at sundown and a passing sprinkle or shower or brief snow shower later today up north. Then cold tomorrow. A bitter wind. A high of 32. Feeling like the teens at the best of times. And then thursday morning well have to keep our eyes out for a light snow shower that could put down a coating to an inch in some areas. Perhaps during the morning commute so thursday morning is the time were watching. Then in the afternoon some sun comes back, still cold, 36 a little brisk but not as windy as wednesday and then still cold on friday, mostly cloudy, 34 degrees. A snow shower possible down in delaware on friday. Well keep our eyes on that. And then saturday finally things start to get a little better. Cold to start out but 40 in the afternoon. 44 sunday afternoon and 46 monday with some rain. Okay. Thank you david. Time right now is 5 41. The tight race all comes down to today. On thursday morning we have a few snow showers coming your way so a few morning issues for your commute. Here is today. Storm tracker6 live double scan showing a couple of spotty showers but we want to go farther to the north and see where theres snow showers. Its up in mount pocono and lake harmony and hazelton and pottsville, in reading right now its just a couple of sprinkles so temperatures are really telling the story with that. 29 degrees in lake harmony but youre in the upper 30s in bethlehem. And in new jersey, youre mostly in the 40s. 42 in hammonton. 42 in glassboro and 42 degrees in smyrna, delaware so watch for those morning showers moving through. Im full of good news, dave. Well, thats good news. Full of something. Storm tracker6 live double scan also generally good news karen as we have mainly light sprinkles and showers around. Notice how you have to go up towards the poconos to get it cold enough for snow. Even in allentown were in the upper 30s right now so if you do see one of these sprinkles or showers during the morning it should be rain and not ice. 43 degrees currently in philadelphia. 39 in allentown. 38 up in reading. Were a little cooler in trenton, 35 degrees there. 42 in wilmington and 45 in millville. There is going to be a rush of colder air coming in later this afternoon. I do expect a high today of 47 degrees, little bit higher than this model but then after about 3 oclock the temperatures really plunge. This model has 36. I actually think we could be as cold as 32 particularly in some suburbs as soon as 7 oclock so colder air really rushing in. Dont be surprised if you see a brief snow shower as that cold air changes over in allentown late this afternoon. Otherwise, the big issue, jeanette, will be grabbing that coat and putting on the extra layers later tonight and especially tomorrow. Bundle up. All right, thank you dave.
