Theres just no relief. That nationwide computer outage thats caused trouble at airports all across the country. Look at these lines at customs at the end of the Holiday Travel rush and david kerley is at Dulles Airport with the latest. Good morning, david. Reporter good morning, george. The latest many wave of arrivals coming in from customs, less than 12 hours ago at airports across the country, a rude welcoming when those Customs Computers went down and lines and waits got long. The lines grew long from miami to seattle when those computers went down. Angry, tired. Frustrated. Worst airport ever. Terrible. Reporter those customs kiosks not working according to some passengers. Nobody seems to know whats going on. Reporter meaning all International Travelers coming into the u. S. , many returning home, had to get in line, thousands of them and thats why those lines grew so long. Reporter customs and Border Protection says it has no reason to believe something malicious caused its Processing System to shut down. But this is not the first time this has happened. Thanks very much. Turning to that new threat from north korea. Its leader sending a mixed new years message claiming he has a Nuclear Button on his desk with the entire u. S. In range but also opening the door to dialogue with south korea. Martha raddatz is tracking the latest from washington. How is the u. S. Responding this morning . Reporter good morning, robin. President trump who is in the past talked of fire and fury had an uncharacteristically muted response saying simply well see but trump is well aware of north Koreas Nuclear capabilities and while kim jongun may not have an actual Nuclear Button sitting on his desk, north koreas ability to hit the u. S. With a Nuclear Weapon increases every day. I spoke to the former chairman of the joint chiefs admiral mike mullen on this week who said he believes we are closer to a nuclear war with north korea than we have ever been, robin. Kim also going on to say that they may talk with south korean delegation about possibly sending a team to the olympics . Reporter exactly, and south korea says this morning that by proposing highlevel talks with north korea next week there on the border, theyll meet with them, they say they share that border and talk about whether north korea could be part of the Winter Olympics next month, south korea has been uncomfortable with Donald Trumps fiery rhetoric and wants to ease tensions, but that could dilute trumps message of force and his insistence that north korea give up its Nuclear Program before any talks could be held but, robin, there is little doubt this will be President Trumps number one Foreign Policy challenge this year. Little doubt. All right. Could be driving a wedge between the u. S. And south korea. Overseas deadly protests in iran overnight. Sixth straight day of clashes between Security Forces and antigovernment protesters who have drawn support from President Trump. Our chief Foreign Correspondent terry moran is tracking the latest from london. Good morning. Reporter these are stunning developments in iran, a nemesis of the u. S. For decades, a major sponsor of terrorism and unrest throughout the middle east now being rocked with the biggest protest there in almost a decade and theyre spreading. Overnight nine more were killed in clashes with police according to Iranian State television. The death toll is now at least 20 since those protests began last thursday and on social media were seeing extraordinary scenes in this tightly controlled country, burning buildings and car, broken window, crowds refusing to disperse, these protests began with economic demands but as they spread, some of the streets are now calling for the downfall of the regime itself and in response, a hard line. Irans supreme supporter this morning accused, quote, enemies of iran of fomenting unrest while President Trump as you say has tweeted his support for the protests declaring it is time for change. Any sense of how serious the threat to the regime this is, terry . Reporter well, the sense right now is that they are responding in such a hard line way, they are frightened. Were hearing while theyre spreading geographically theyre not enormous. You arent seeing hundreds of thousands or millions on the street yet. Okay, terry moran, thanks very much. George, President Trump is facing those tensions as he prepares for the year ahead returning to washington last night and now setting the agenda for 2018. Our senior White House Correspondent cecilia vega is there in washington and, cecilia, whats topping the president s to do list . Reporter hes feeling good coming into 2018 fresh off that tax victory. At the end of the week hell meet with Mitch Mcconnell and paul ryan to map out the years legislative agenda tackling faa and the president pushing for at minimum a 200 billion program to fix things like the nations roads and airports, the president has called infrastructure the easiest of all to achieve. Also on this to do list, welfare reform. The president wants to overhaul the welfare system and, of course, they have this issue with daca still undocumented immigrants who came to the country as Young Children but, robin, all of this as those midterms are right around the corner, republicans really looking to keep their hold here in washington. Midterm will be here before we know it. Thank you. Lets get more from matthew dowd and matthew, we heard some of the items on President Trumps agenda right there but theres also so much Unfinished Business from last year, all the spending bills left over from last year, the Childrens Health insurance program, they got the tax bill passed at the end of the year, put up a lot of tough decisions for january. Yeah, absolutely. They have a whole bunch of things that need to get done but for the country as a whole as we have seen in the plain, trains and automobiles. Theyre in a bad year. Akin to jacksonville playing in the sun and then having to play up in buffalo in the winter. Theyre moving into the winter in 2018. Their margin in the senate as of tomorrow goes from four to two and theres a democrat wave building in the course of 2018, so though the needs are great the opportunities are few in an Election Year like a midterm with the democrats doing well. It would suggest with just a onevote margin in the senate the only real option is bipartisanship but that is going to be so difficult given the stand that President Trump has taken especially on that border wall. I think theres a huge opportunity for the president to demonstrate like he did on the debt ceiling when he compromised with nancy pelosi and Chuck Schumer where his numbers actually went up but the problem is, the more he compromises the more he makes republicans vulnerable in their own primaries so it helps in a general election, but it hurts in a primary and now the democrats have no incentive with this wave as i say building to not surf that wave and try to obstruct everything that the president wants to do. Matt dowd, thanks very much. Now to the investigation into that vacation tragedy this costa reek kachlt a charter plane crashing killing all 12 people on board including two american families.
