WPVI Action News At 4PM January 8, 2018
Earlier this afternoon as people tried to head home from work early which was a good idea. When i walked out of my house this afternoon my neighbors car next door covered in ice. So, if you dont have a garage, you dont have an overhang to park under your car, too, will be covered in ice and of course you need to clean it off before you try and hit the roads. Luckily at this point most of our roads are not covered in ice, at least not if theyve been treated and of course all the highways have been treated so heavily the last few days with the series of storms that weve been facing. Live look at the schuylkill expressway here at conshohocken and since last we checked the travel time has gotten about 10 minutes better. Now its about a 20 minute delay as you come eastbound but you have to keep those speeds down and it looks like the this afternoon people have been doing that which is a good thing. Meanwhile on the boulevard we had a truck fire near adams avenue. Thats cleared out. But theyre still cleaning up that overturned truck in southwest philadelphia at island and lindbergh. Also a debris spill and fuel spill involved with in so id definitely avoid that intersection as you head toward
Philadelphia International
airport this afternoon. Watching other issues around the region including a downed pole in horsham blocking babylon road. Stick with willow brook road or tournament drive to get around that. Have to drop the speeds of course but at this point no big issues along 611, the pennsylvania turnpike or the northeast extension of the turnpike. But out in
Kennett Square
were watching an overturned propane truck so this is a pretty big issue. You want to avoid kennett pike, 52, baird road, greenwood road or creek road would be some alternates. In new castle watching a crash by the budget inn along route nine new castle avenue at memorial drive. In mount holly its a water main break thats closing rancocas drive this afternoon. Head for marne highway washington street to get around that. Well check it again, sharrie and brian, coming up in the next half hour. Matt, thanks. Well, as we deal of course with this wintry mix, we watch and wait to see if the icy conditions will affect the power in homes and businesses. Power crews in south jersey say they are already ready if they are needed. Action

john rawlins spoke with a representative for pse g today and joins us now live from cherry hill with the full story from there. Hi, john. Reporter hi, sharrie. Well, we have a light drizzle here right now, for the last 15, 20 minutes i guess and when it hits the top of this curbside trash can, i dont know if you can tell, but it is icing up there, very, very little ice. Its sort of a very light glaze. Not enough to impact the power utility lines here. They need at least a quarter inch of ice there before that becomes problematic. In talking to the two big power utilities in the area, both peco and pse g, they dont believe that their system is at any risk at this point in time given the forecast. Take electrical distribution lines that run along your street to your hou large nearby trees and then mix in a forecast with a possibility of icing conditions. And you get the attention of those whose job it is to keep the lights on. Pse g has some one half million customers in what it calls its southern division. We spoke with the
