Investigators rose high above 239 Chestnut Street to get an aerial view of the damage as they work to figure out what caused the four alarm fire that burned through several buildings along this historic olde city block yesterday morning. Chris young owns the little lion restaurant on the attorney. He got a look inside at the damage from the flames, smoke and especially water. All that went into the basement, as far back as halfway down the street here on the right, basements had water. Took a lot to get this fire out. Reporter the fire broke out around 3 oclock sunday morning. Its believed the flames started in 239 chestnut. Dozens were forced to evacuate from homes and hotel rooms. At like 3 45 in the morning, i all of a sudden wonk, wonk, wonk you just hear this glaring noise. You wake up all scared and the guys on our floor were banging. Its not a joke, you have to get up. Reporter this afternoon hotel guests were allowed to access some rooms to retrieve belongings. They snapped photos showing damage inside. They said we could come in and get our items that are in the rooms. They said that theres about three or 4inches of water in the rooms and that something things may or may not be salvage abdominal which is fine. Were all okay. Reporter from chopper6 you can see how the roof of 239 collapsed. L and i says the building is in imminent danger of collapsing. The people who lived on the upper floors have nothing to return to. We realize that other people, residents who lost their apartments are in much bigger fix than we are. All we need is our car keys and well be okay. Stuff is stuff. Reporter now, the owner of 239, which youre looking at right now has been ordered to remove that fire escape. Thats to relieve stress on the upper floors. You can watch all of that following action news at 6 00. All right, time now for a check of our action news traffic report monday night. Lets take it live to matt pelman in the action news traffic center. Hi, matt. Hi, guys. Skies not so clear on this monday evening but things are clearing out here along 95 in bucks county southbound side. We had a broken down vehicle right here in the work zone where there really isnt a shoulder for the vehicle to pull off onto. Caused a delay. Gone now but the delay is thinning coming into pennsylvania off the scudder falls bridge. Elsewhere on 95 volume is a little bit lighter than normal because of the holiday today. A lot of speeds in the 50 so well take it. But its less than that coming out of the city on the westbound 59 and westbound 59 59 and schuylkill. Construction also cleared along city avenue in front of us, in front of channel6, both lanes now reeastbound on the southbound side of one. Were still watching a crash in pottstown by the ice house along king street at manatawny and a new accident in delaware, southbound side of 95 near mlk, maryland avenue. Taking out the right lane so single digit speeds there coming southbound through wilmington. I would stay over on 495 instead. And we continue to deal with this broken down truck at the delaware memorial bridge. Its jersey bound heading into new jersey so coming out of new castle a big long delay that starts on 95 back in christiana, goes up past 13, along 295 to the bridge. If youre trying to get into south jersey i would use the commodore barry, not the delaware memorial where those speeds are not looking so hot this afternoon. Well check it again, rick and monica, in the next half hour. Sounds good. Thanks, matt. Thank you. Be sure to wake up with the Action News Morning Team to get a great start to your day. Researchers at the university of pennsylvania say 21 diplomats suffered classic signs of a concussion. Things like headaches, fatigue, vision problems, memory problems, concentration loss and mood changes. But they never had any blows to the head. Virtually all those affected reported strange sounds in their homes or hotel rooms, loud buzzing or grind, metal yet the fbi and penn ruled out sonic attacks because those audible sounds wouldnt cause that damage. They feel the sounds may have been a side effect of the attack. The penn team says theres much more to learn about the incident but they do want doctors to be on watch for similar cases. Also today its long been thought that women dont always get the same medical care for heart problems as men do. And now a new study shows many could be missing out on a life saving treatment.
