A Prince Georges CountyPolice Officer is not on the job this morning after being accused of assault and child abuse. Corporal steven moore was arrested monday in calvert county. Sheriffs deputies said he assaulted his son and exwife during an argument. Prince georges county police have suspended him. Moore is a nineyear veteran of the work force and worked in administration. A former federal police chief expected to plead guilty to manufacturing meth at a highsecurity government lab. The news4 iteam says Christopher Bartley will plead guilty on friday. Prosecutors say he tried to make meth at the National Institute of standards and technology in gaithersburg where he was the pleep for the agency the police chief for the agency. This was the same day there was a suspicious explosion there. Bartleys attorney said he was conducting an unauthorized training experiment. Bartley resigned the next day. You know, its a short distance from the jail to the course house. This started in august of 2013. John gear was at his home. There had been a call for a domestic disturbance. Police officers showed up from Fairfax County at i23 some poin turning this into a standoff. As they were negotiating with mr. Gear to come out, officer adam torres, former officer adam torres, fired his weapon, striking and killing gear in his doorway. There have been accounts of what happened. Torres said he thought gear was making a move for a weapon. Other officers said he had his hand up. While this process started, as we said, shortly after that, were ten days short of two years before we go to court. The Commonwealth Attorney says this shouldnt have taken that long. Later on today, adam torres will make his first court appearance. He was fired after an internal investigation at the end of last month and indicted this week. Prevention center have joined forces to hold a series of talks at area shelter. The meetings come in response to a spike in synthetic drug use in the district. The session is set for 7 00 at the community for creative nonviolence shelter in northwest. By the end of the day, the Transit Administration will have several proposals to consider for the purple line. Private companies are competing for a chance to build and operate the project to connect montgomery and prince georges counties. Today is the deadline for them to submit their bids. The deadline was pushed back twice before now. Mdot said it wanted to give bidders time to see if they could save money when they built that purple line.
