Today maryland announced it would not install any more of those guardrails. Susan hogan is working for you and joining us now for an update. Thats right. The problem is with the end piece of the guardrail. There are a lot of different types out there, as you may know. Several lawsuits claim that this is defective and sometimes leading to tragic results. At least six people have been killed. As we told you last month, about a dozen states, including virginia, have decided to stop using them. Transportation officials tell us, starting immediately, they will only use guardrails that meet new, stricter trash test standards and the xlite does not qualify. With the ability of other products and the removal of the xlite from the approved list, we made the proactive decision to stop new installation and go with the new products. So now starting next summer, all states will have to switch to products that meet these new standards in order to use federal money to buy the guardrails but there are still roughly 2,000 of these xlites that will remain in place for now. And in a statement to news4, the maker of the xlite said there is no road Safety Equipment that will prevent injury but they have reduced t accidents. Were getting a look at a brazen robbery from last friday at a bank on route 1 in beltsville. In part of the video, one of the thieves has an assaultstyle rifle. They took the cash and drove off in a van. Police found that van a little later without the suspects or the money. A spike in certain crimes at Mgm National Harbor casino. There are government records that show at least 23 thefts or robberies since october and the most at any Maryland Casino in any month this year. Only one of the incidents was a robbery and at least ten were complaints from customers about missing money.
