Well, hey erin, yeah we were live earlier right by the accident on the southbound lanes of 28 right on the overpass of 66, but then police came up to us, knocked on our window and told us we had to get out of there because they were going to try to land a chopper on the southbound lanes of route 28 to respond to this crash. Earlier we were reporting that there were no serious injuries in this crash. However, its unclear now exactly whats going on and if this chop chopper is respondingo possible injuries that they found later on after doing some investigating and clearing out of this crash but its a doozie. Right now northbound lanes of route 28 are moving. However, the southbound side, the far right two lanes are currently still blocked with Emergency Response vehicles. They are trying to upright and tow away at least two, possibly three trucks. They looked all of them looked large, maybe big rigs. We did see at least one overturned, two down an embankment. Another one with heavy front end damage ar and it looks like were seeing the chopper off in the distance right now. Looks like hes possibly trying to land. Bottom line is that area is pretty congested. Traffic is building on route 28 as well as 66. Theyre closing down ramps off and on as they try to get Emergency Response vehicles and this chopper landed properly. So, youre going to want to avoid the area. This is the busiest travel day of the year. Were having millions of folks out on the roadways later on in the day and millions of folks are going to be traveling in our airports. This is right near Dulles Airport. Earlier we had some issues with access to Dulles Airport because of this crash. So, if youre heading to the airport, if youre heading out on the roads early, thats a good decision on your part in terms of beating the crowds but we do have this accident thats causing some delays so youre going to want to either leave extra time or try to avoid it altogether. Were going to try to circle back around onto route 28 to try to give you a better now t it looks like the chopper is about to be down. Well bring latest on that crash. Thanks anjali. Breaking this morning in the philippines a ferry has capsized. The boat was carrying 251 passengers. There are reports that four people have died and dozens of others are missing. Survivors indicate heavy winds and rain lashed that ship about two hours into the journey when it began taking on water. Passengers rushed to one side which is when that ferry began to sink. Now to the news developing out of australia where nearly 20 people are hurt after an suv rammed into a crowd of pedestrians today in melbourne. It was an Area Business with christmas shoppers. Though this is considered an intentional act police say they do not have any evidence to connect it to terrorism. Witnesses say the white suzuki suv ran a red light sped up crashed through pedestrian barriers into the crowd without braking. It was before 5 00 p. M. In melbournes Central Business district where people were shopping and wait tag cable car stop. The area has been on high alert since a car attack there in january that killed four. 19 people were taken to the hospital, four in critical condition. The suspect and the arresting officer are among those receiving medical treatment. You are also looking at pictures from our sky news affiliate of one man being arrested by Victoria Police. He appeared to be unconscious and officers can seen trying to revive him. Police say he fought with an off duty officer who wrestled him to the ground after the crash. Another man was also filmed sitting on the ground in handcuffs and calmly talking to investigators. At this time we dont any evidence or intelligence to indicate a connection with terrorism. Having said that, however, we continue to support this investigation with our Counter Terrorism command to ensure that there isnt that connection and that there is no ongoing threat. Police say the driver of the suv is a 32yearold Australian Citizen of afghan descent. They say hes known to police with a history of assault drug use and Mental Health issues. The other man who was taken into custody apparently was seen filming the incident on his phone and was carrying a bag of knives. Police say they dont believe he has a connection to the driver. Prime minister Malcolm Turnbull called this a shocking act and sent prayers for the victims and first responders, also the local premiere called it an act of evil and cowardice.
