Reporter maureen and steve, that crash happened at this intersection behind me. This is centreville road and frying pan proceed here in herndon, virginia. It was shut down to traffic for hours and it reopened early this morning. But police say it all started around 8 oclock last night when this man, em knocked on n the door of a home on autumn drive which is not too far from here. They say a young child answered the door. The man assaulted that child, then fled in a stolen vehicle. He then crashed into a man at a nearby shopping center, carjacked that guy, assaulted him and then he left the scene. Now, officers responding to the child assault call spotted him on the road and after a pursuit, the suspect crashed into a van carrying seven people near this major intersection. He then got out of the car, ran into the woods and thats where offics arrest him. They took him into custody and he is in the hospital this morning with multiple charges or facing multiple charges. Right now theres still a lot more questions. We still dont know his relationship to this child, the condition of this child and so heres what police have to say about the latest. This is a multifacted investigation. We have several scenes, crime scenes. The crash is quite a a bad crash. And we have called out multiple resources. Our command bus is on scene and, you know, as we piece things together and find out motive for the initial call, what led to this pursuit, what led to the crash, we have all the investigative units on scene to pe piece that altogether. Reporter you hear Fairfax County police say they still have a lot of pieces they need to put together in this case, a lot of questions but we do know, again, the suspect multiple charges in the hospital right now. We also have one of the seven passengers in this van with serious injuries in the hospital still, so hopefully that person will be okay and were also told an officer was injured but he is going to be okay as well. So, thats the very latest here from herndon virginia. Back to you in the studio. This started in upper Montgomery County and ended in virginia. A chase, two suspects into custody. This started yesterday about 5 30 in the afternoon with a robbery call in germantown, maryland. The owner of a pizza shop on chopper road said two suspects pulled a gun and robbed him. Then took off. The owner told someone to call police and then he gave chase and so did the cops leading them down i270 ending up with a crash in mclean on the gw parkway. The owner says chasing the suspects was purely instinct. They tried to come harm my bu take everybody works here as family. After making it all the way into virginia officers were able to get that suspects car off the road on the gw parkway right near 123 in mclean. Police tell us no one was hurt during the chase or resulting crash although traffic was backed up for some time during rush hour. Want to take you to Loudoun County. Sheriffs there re a sheriffs deputy remains in the hospital this morning. The deputies were shot while responding to a domestic dispute on Christmas Eve in sterling, virginia. Both deputies are being treated for serious but nonlifethreatening injuries. The suspect who shot them is 38yearold douglas johnson. Johnson is being held in custody without bond and is facing attempted capitol murder charges. Breaking out of russia this morning, president Vladimir Putin is confirming yesterdays attack on the countrys second largest city is in fact a terrorist attack. At least 13 people were injured when a device containing 200 grams of explosives and shrapnel went off at a supermarket in saint petersburg. New this morning authorities released some of the 911 calls from people who were on that amtrak train that went off the tracks in Washington State. The derailment left three people dead many more injured. Casey steegle has the new details. Yes, this is 911. Im on the train from tacoma. We just crashed. Do you need medical aid. Were probably going to need medical aid for a lot of people. Reporter chill amtrak train that derailed last week during its inaugural run. Weve been on an amtrak train accident. Were south of tacoma north of olympia. Tons of people are hurt. Reporter angela was one of the 80 plus people on board when almost every car went off the tracks falling onto busy interstate five. Three people were killed and dozens were hurt, many of them seriously. You can hear the panic in angelas voice as she tries to relay information to the operator. Is anybody in the car that youre in hurt . Yes. A lot. Reporter 911 was also swamped with calls from motorists passing by the scene. The train is hanging off the overpass. Its landed on vehicles and theres theres theres bodies laying everywhere. Reporter investigators say the train barreled into a curve at nearly 80 miles an hour in a 30 miles an hour zone. The ntsb or national is also looking at possible human error. If any of the crew was distracted. The entire probe expected to take more than a year. Now police say the 22yearold victim said the hairstylist told him to stop fidgeting his head before nicking his ear.
