We really wanted to bring it out for the historic occasion of the popes visit so that we could have something that the community and the visitors come in, and see, on rare occasion that would allow us to share one of the treasures with them, for the first time in as you say very, very long time. So this is an actual fragment of the gospel according to Saint Matthew . Yes. This was written in egypt, in about 300ce or so, just few hundred years after jesus lived. And it was discovered in the 19 century as part of expedition that penn funded, thats how we come to have it. It was found in evening submit. Egypt, about 40,000 fragments found in trash heaps there. And this piece gives the geneology of jesus christ, and also includes the episode where joseph discovers she is with the holy child in spirit. Here, we can see, some of the first bibles that were published in different countries, including, around the corner is the first bible that was published here in the u. S. And it is written in native american . Thats right. This is actually the first bible, the First Complete bible that was presented in the western hemisphere. And it was finished in 1663 in cambridge, massachusetts, and it is translation of the entire bible, into the massachusetts language. So it is an extraordinary piece.
