To be table see that it is cut short for somebody that was, you know, such a good, good person. You know to him and his wife brandy, it is really hard to think about what is really going to transpire. It is well, our hearts are certainly heavy im sure yours are too. This morning with the news of the passing every roy. The former phillies, only here four years still we love him. Died doing having that he loved. Flying his airplane. His brand new airplane. He was the only person on that single engine plane whether it slammed into the shallow waters, in the gulf of mexico. Just north of, well, ironically clearwater, florida. Tributes pouring in for the legend there is billboard lit up at Citizens Bank park last night to honor the life of the eight time allstar. I think that tribute is still up this morning too if you are driving by. And then this is a live look, some people have been dropping by Different Things all night long. If we had an above shot of those candles it is in the shape every his number 34. So that will continue all day long, im sure over at the bank. Roy halladay again, four season with us, one of our well, four aces they say but he always said dont forget joe blanton. We had five aces at one time. Look at the papers here. Above the folds. Is the philadelphia inquirer. Former phillies ace, 40, dice in florida plane crash. But then, deeper into in the sports page, in the inquirer, boy, that says it, right . Unforgettable, unbelievable and unforgettable and of course the daily news front and back, there is cents a picture, there nice picture of him tipping his hat. And then on the back, the late great, boy thats for sure, so thats the talk over on sport talk radio, 97. 5 the fan at glike where steve is, all talking about the memories, uarent we, steve . It bridges a smile to my face it, shows you the impact and the greatness when youre only in a career or in a town for four years and you have this much impact thats just shows true greatness a lot of peoples surprised that the gale sayers career four years hall of famer because he had a great irma pact on the game of football. Same as roys impact here in philadelphia. You mention can recalls i dont know if we have the picture back, they put plastic overall of the me moan toast that people left there. No plastic obviously over the candles, but notice those candles, even though they were little, they had the strength not one every them was doused that formed the number 34. Those little candle, leading through strength and examples, some of what anthony said. This is tragic day for phillies baseball, for philadelphia, you know, doc was special, he only was here for four years, but he had such a huge impact, 21 games 19 games he was dominant, it was during the best era every phillies baseball, answer was the leader every it, the had ace, a zeros, him and clever lee, coal, and roy oswald. So i worked with greg yesterday, he said hey did you hear a plane owned by halladay went down, hopefully hes okay. I immediately go on his twitter account noticed this a week ago to the day roy talking about how he can cited he was how his response from his dad that he is flying a fighter jet ann noticed dollars first reaction, mike meisha, one of our viewers who will always responds to our tweets and mike wisely saying please be careful roy. He wrote last week, and im sure mike is among the philly fans just so sad right now. But mike saw this and maybe mike knew how dangerous flying can be, as much as roy loved flying. And thats was the tweety noticed and re tweeted yesterday before we got the awful nice. Mike im sure just as up sit at many of the people are call into the show today a place to get collective grief in philadelphia and tell their stories. Bower eye so right about it, four seasons, seems like he was here his entire career, but most up in toronto. Steve well check back with you there. A Pennsylvania State trooper in the fight of his life for sure, after he was shot mitt many times during traffic stop yesterday the shooter is also in the hospital. Guy drove himself to the hospital after troopers returned fire on this guy. Right out on the roadway. Lauren johnson joining us from the hospital where hes being treated lauren . Reporter hey, good morning, mike and alex, around 5 00 this morning we saw two Pennsylvania State troopers arrive here at the hospital, one every them escort add woman inside, just about ten minute ago both of them left. But yesterday all of this started, as a routine traffic stop. Ended with a trooper and driver both in the hospital, and this morning everyone optimistic that doctors and nurses Healing Hands will help save this troopers live after that shootout on route 33 in plane field township. The trooper spotted speeding driver pulled him over at some point, he thought the man may have been under the influence so he called for back up. The man was about to be placed un arrest, but he escaped somehow running back to his car moment later troop remembers shielding themselves from bullet, one trooper was hit several times. Troopers shot back. Appearing to hit that back window of the getaway car before the suspect took off. The troop nears knockdown drag out fight along the side of the road. With vehicles speeding by them. And it got very, very violent. Right now our guy is up there, fighting for his life. He is a warrier. And we understands that the 22 year old suspect facing several charges including attempted murder drove himself to a hospital where police found his car that was involved in the shootout. It was towed away as evidence. The trooper, 14 year veteran who has not been yet named works out of the barracks at belfast, of course still being cared for in the intensive care unit here at st. Lukes level one trauma center. Mike and alex. Thank you, 7 10 now. Well the results are in, in allentown. Democrat he will he had he had he had muscle as ski reelected as fourth term as mayor. Interesting because the vote comes despite pulaski fighting charges that could lands him in prison beat out real estate matt hy hahnemann,. Okay, so, what did the election in new jersey and in virginia have to say about the National Landscape . You know, republicans are pretty much nursing some wounds this morning after those couple of big races especially, in jersey, the governors race. You could argue, though when it comes to jersey where people trying to speak out against Chris Christie or speaking out against trump . That would have to be analyzed maybe a man that we know very well could and lies that for us . Oh, doug lou saider . Doug luzader hey doug . Good morning yes look, you know we watch these gubernatorial races in new jersey and virginia, very closely last night these offer year elections generally dont go photo well from the party that controls the white house, boy was that the case last night. Virginia we noticed another democratic sweep today. Democrat Ralph Northam savoring his victory keeping the governor seat in virginia in democratic hands in a surprisingly lopsided win. It was supposed to be a close race. I mean, polls show this race tightening recent weeks. It really wasnt that close at all. What does it all mean . Northam beat republican the he had gilesby who embraced some of President Trumps policies but also kept him at arms lent. The president endorsed gilesby and recorded last minute robo calls, but on twitter last night said ed gilesby worked hard but did not embrace me or what i stand for. Not exactly a surprise the university of virginias larry, who says, virginia is no longer a toss upstate. So would you expect a democrat to be elected when there is a republican president , particularly, when the gop president is unpopular. And he is popular in virginia you know, he is popular in red states but he is not popular in blue states and virginia is blue. And couple the virginia race with floater win for democrats, in new jerseys Gubernatorial Election host of other contests. Beat one of virginias longest serving gop members in its house of delegates becoming the first openly transgender person in the country to win a seat in a state legislature. But there are challenges ahead for democrats. Ralph northam may have won but had to cut offer his own victory speech after being heckled by protesters on the left. Upset about his opposition, to sanctuary cities. Northam eventually returned to the stage to deliver his victory address and to just put this in perspective, it was one year ago today that President Trump you know, stunned the political worlds and won the white house it shows you how quickly things can change in politics. Thats right. Year ago tonight were all around our tvs, thats for sure. All right doug, see you tomorrow. 7 13 now. And did you see this yesterday . Former new jersey governor Chris Christie caught in a confrontation there is was outside a polling place. Yes . When he was going to go vote. Waist there with his wife. Fighting until the end. Video shows governor christie in a heated argument, with a voter outside of the polling station. There was about why easiest thing in the worlds to stand where you stand stands on the side lines and critique well, youre not. You want to merge the township, the borough run for the township committee. Run for the township run for the township committee. You have a voice to do it. I know. Thats too hard. Youre so frustrated, you know the easiest thing in the worlds. Youre right alex. The first lady, marry pat just sitting there smiling,. Because it is about a minute long the full thing the whole time she is smiling. Well, she shahs been through it, she knows how to hands it will. This whole argument came about because the con stint ooh end asking why he never merged his hometown, so he was saying well why dont you run for township committee. Thats when it went back and forth. Back and forth. Yes. So a lot of people whether 2 cents posted, look at marry pat. You cant make a face. How many times has cents she stood by governor christie when he is arguing . She knows how to do it. Rubin amaro junior on the line. Welcome back to good day philadelphia. How are you doing mike, hi alex, how are you doing. How are you doing. Good. Oh man we just keep thinking about the good old days. Rubin, first of all your thoughts when you heard about this the passing every roy . Well, clearly i was distraut. My oil pr director in philadelphia he informed me that there might be something wrong with his plane and that there was a rumor it is possible though that he was fleeing it, and obviously got the news, confirm and clearly was distraut, ive been telling me family that, been this distraut since the time my dad passed. Yes. It is very, very tough. For the entire phillies community, philadelphia community, and also the baseball community. And the fact, 40, just so young. We those we had more years to see him and talk with him. Obviously cut very, very short, but he was passionate about what d he was passionate about being a father. Passionate about being a pilot, as passionate as he was about being on the mound. Yes. So i know he lived his life to the fullest after he left baseball, and so sad for brandy ryan, bringden, the family, it is very, very sad. Your biggest best ac which significance ever do you think . I would have to say so, i guess, you know, having put together that rotation with he lee obviously cole, other. But i just think the ac which significance was not just about the talent. To me it was he exceeded expectations as a person and as a teammate. And it was just so special to be able to happen, and to be able to watch him pitch on every, you know, every five days that, you know, we were fortunate to be able to witness that. I think it is interesting too, you talk about what type of person he was. You shared that he would often sends you apology text, really if a game didnt go so well . Pretty amazing talk about the accountability of athletes, and you that people understand that, you know, they have a job to do, when they make mistakes, or they have trouble out there that theyre accountable for it. He would actually sends me texts from time to time, if he did not perform well, particularly like in the playoffs, if we didnt win a game. Oh my god. And perform and throw complete game or Something Like that i would think to myself, come on, roy youre one of the greatest players of all time, and youre sending me apology texts when youre not performing. I mean thats the type of person he is. And thats kind eye pit mice cents cents what hes all about. I think back to the games hard sometimes scoring runs, did he ever say well if you scored me couple of runs i would have won . No, actually his feeling was that you know, when we lost one game in 2011, he was feeling badly about giving up the one run. So i mean thats the kind of person he was. He never he always, always took the blame and he was one of those guys, like i said, like he was one of the most accountable people ive ever been around. Yes yes, could you just real real quickly why did he want to come to filly . Just because get a chance for the playoffs. I think there was really the only reason, i think he had an opportunity to watch us grow you know he pitched against us all the time in clearwater you know, brother and sister cities there down in spring training, and so we got a chance to see them a lot. And i guess he had a chance to see us a lot. And clearly when we started developing that club that we were, he knew that, you know there is was an opportunity for him to maybe put on that ring and unfortunately we werent able to do that for him. But it wasnt because of him. It was certainly just because the ball just didnt roll right for us couple of years. Alex and i were just talking about that some of the players the four aces, and of course he insisted on the five aces on the cover of sports illustrate that they still kind of know each other and were hanging out. Going on vacation . Yes. They do get together. I think that coal ended up having pretty big bash and they went in australia for several days, i think, roy did, but they still have a bonn, i know, you know, in this day and age, social media and such, im sure they texted each other quite a bit, it was very closeknit group. When you have that casino every success and you live with each other for couple of years, you ends up having a pretty special bonds, and i think those guys did. Just amaze to go think it was only couple every years that we had him. Feels like so much longer. Rubin thank you. Thanks for having me, and be well. Thank you. Too. By the way speaking of what hes been up to, he i believe just signed to be the First Base Coach for the new york mets. The mets. The mets. Be he had ready to be booed on the first base like. I mean, i just think all the time gps is wrong you know what i even . Thats pars of it. Gps, 306 censors everywhere. They can see up to 300 meters away. And so, the argue s they can see more than a driver would be. Argument they may be safer than having a human behind the wheel. But waybo is the first to have the cars on the road without safety driver behind the wheel. They do have employee in the back seat, though, so if anything does go wrong, they are able to stop the car. Theyre rolling this out in chandler arizona. There are some restrictions, though, only able to operate in a 100 square mile radius, as the cars get more data. Then theyll expand that perimeter, then they do have the employee in the back seat. But this is a big step because no other sever driving car company had said theyre ready to pick up passengers, with no one in the driver seat. A lot of these severdriving cars have still had someone behind the wheel. Wait. Does it still count . I mean yes not in the front seat behind the wheel but theyre still in the car with you. How about get your butt out of the front and just driver the car. Might as well if youre in the car with me . Okay, they do all every these things in faces and stems. This is kinds of the next step. Putting them
