Power was shut off and emergency generator was switched on. More than a hundred nursing home residents were moved to other Genesis Health facilities in the area. Just need to get people to facilities where they can be comfortable until repairs to this facility are effectuated. Reporter school buses were pressed into service to get those with mobility issues out of the nursing home. You took seven or eight people out of there with heavy votes coats on bundled up . Yes. What was their demeanor. They were pretty quiet. All but one gentleman he was a little upset for leaving. Reporter no time frame yet on repairs to that basement mess at the nursing home but again all of the residents have been moved out. Reporter well, thats what theyre saying but the city says theres not much they can do about it the Water Department telling us tonight theyre not in the business of breaking up ice and digging out cars especially with 20 water main breaks a day being reported. Residents are hoping warmer temperatures bite end of the week may freeze up these cars. Sarah vogel was out salting her sidewalk on richmond street monday evening but just across the street, no amount of salt was going to break up the ice that locked these two vehicles in place for days now. Its been coming out pretty bad got worst last three days. Reporter neighbors say this truck and compact car have been frozen in place for over week after water main break somewhere on the block flooded the street and it froze. Literally ice. Reporter owners of the vehicles say theyve call the Water Department and the citi three within 11 line for help without any success. All ice from a water main leak. Thats been leaking for almost a week now. Weve called several times about it. Reporter Water DepartmentSpokesman Says they have no reports of a break on that blo block. And while they can have roadways salted after a break, smashing ice and digging out vehicles is not something they do. The Water Department has to melt the ice. Reporter or come out and break it up maybe . Or break it up. Sure. Reporter the Water Department says theyve averaged about 20 water main breaks a day for the past week. With well over a hundred breaks being repaired. Theres new breaks reported each day. Spokesman says cars are being frozen in by ice after breaks all over the city. Get it fixed. Get it fixed. The Philadelphia Fire Department is announced services for fire lieutenant matt la attorney knee died over the weekend. He can pay your respects at two public viewing at the cathedral basilica of saints peter and paul. The first is thursday from 4 30 to 9 00 p. M. Second is friday at 9 00 a. M. Follow beside funeral mass at 11 00. Thousands of first responded ufrom all over will go to pay their respects. But then theyll head right back out and suit up for the next emergency with little time to grapple with all of this and so veteran firefighters who have been through this are working to help others get the help they need. Sure i ride my motorcycle and i go on trips and all that other stuff this is very rewarding that me even though you cant measure it you know that somebody is getting help. Police say the driver took off leaving officer gary miller with a concussion, broken legs and much more. Many surgeries and lot of rehabilitation later, and officer miller is ready to help protect the public once again. Our Chris Oconnell has been talking with him and his family live outside septa police headquarters. Chris . Reporter lucy, theres a good chance that septa Police Officer gary miller wont be getting. Sleep tonight. Thats because first thing tomorrow morning, he will be for the First Time Since nearly being killed hell be back on the job and back walking the beat. Going to be nice to put that on again. Yes. Yes. Reporter for the first time in 18 months, septa transit Police Officer gary miller will be wearing the badge once again. I got hit and i flew in the air. Came down and, you know, the guy left me for dead. Reporter its hard to imagine miller is even alive today. Moments after this picture was taken in june of 20 keep, miller mayfair on roland of a miller was struck by a speeding car. The driver took off. The impact left miller in critical condition. Broken legs, collarbone and a concussion. He broke my tibia here and here. My fib beaulah he broke in half. Just shattered. Reporter but since that day, miller has never given up. Hes the strongest person and i love him to death. Reporter helped by his wife, children and strong faith in god, the 14 Year Police Veteran was bound to recover and return to his job as a Police Officer. A lot of guys came and they saw me in the hospital they look at me now, how are you walking . How you going back to work . How, how, how . How are you a life. Yes. A few weeks after the crash Police Arrested and charged 35yearold jeffrey sickle in millers hitandrun and believe it or not, both miller and his wife forgive sickle and still pray for him. I forgave him because if i dont, how am i going to move on. Reporter miller spent months rehabbing at home. These medals show the races hes run to get back in shape. He says he wants to put the accident behind him and focus on getting back to work protecting the passengers of septa. Were going to go through things in this life, you know, thats not going to be pleasant so its how we respond to that. Reporter now the man who hit miller is now serving a five to 12 year prison sentence. Miller who has been working here at septa headquarters on light duty will be back in his uniform with his badge at the the Frankford Transportation Center tomorrow morning at 7 00 a. M. Lucy. And that has got to feel good. Thank you much, chris. Next a local house engulfed in flames and when firefighters pulled up, they realized one of their own lives inside. Now the flames are out but their work, their work is just getting started. And then a penn student goes to meet someone and south jersey neighborhood is stepping up tonight to help someone devoted to protecting her community. Usually shes the one running into burning homes. But one williamstown firefighter fell victim to fire herself and now she and her familiar dollar not have placing to home. One thing when you deal with the trauma as firefighter on the scene youre saving lives, trying to save property. Its quite another when the person who loses all their property is a member of your very same fire company. Seeing the house with flames shooting out of the roof is never a good thing. Reporter volunteer firefighter nancy perez immediately called upon her training when responding to the this house fire in monroe township. But it got personal when she realized its where her fellow williamstown firefighter donna perezzi lived. Donna has given one 10 of herself to us and to this community. We cant ask for a better person to help represent us and be a part of our family. Reporter noun this Fire Fighting family is stepping up to help one of their own accepting donations and gift cards since donna and her family lost everything. That money will go straight to them 100 of that money will go to them as opposed to other donatindonating sites where thet be a percentage taken out. Reporter firefighter leaders say donnas parents and brother thankfully got out of the home without injuries but the loss of their home is still emotional struggle. Shes shes a trooper. And she is doing the best she can and, um, her and her family are pulling together. Blaze bernstein a university of pennsylvania pre med student was visiting his familiar until lake forest, california, on winter break and was last seen around 11 00 p. M. Last tuesday after cooking dinner for his parents. Bernsteins parents say he left their home around midnight to meet a friend that hed basketball communicating with on social media at a nearby park and never returned. A search for the College Sophomore began on wednesday morning after he failed to show up to a dental appointment his parents holding out hope. You know if you hear me, its okay for to you come home. We love you. Blaze, come home. Wherever you are, whatever has happened, we dont care. We just want you here. Find a way home. The friend bernstein met up with at the park told police he used the restroom and when he came back out, bernstein had disappeared into a wooded area. That was the last time anyone has seen him. Friends and family have been using drones to search the area where bernstein disappeared. Meanwhile investigators are hoping for information that will lead to the teens whereabouts. Any sign of him, any clothing, obviously him, were hoping to find him. Hoping that hes just incapacitated in need of medical assistance. So that we can get him and bring him home safely.
