And he was short of breath when he walked up a flight of stairs. The fourth grader was initially feeling better after getting the flu. But dr. Mike noticed over the weekend nicholas who is normally an healthy active child was taking a terrible turn for the worst. A chest xray confirmed he had pneumonia. Not the news this father of two wanted to hear. As a physician, im worried and as a father, im petrified. Because we know that pneumonia can be very very serious, and the flu can be deadly even in healthy people. Sadly a sixyearold little girl from new jersey who seemed fine on friday in her north bergen kindergarten class died yesterday in flulike symptoms according to a school announcement. The new Jersey Health department confirming it is the second pediatric flew associated death this season. For every parent out there listening, number one, watch your children. If they dont look right, if theyre short of breath, they just had the flu, if they have a fever that wont go away, you need to get them checked out. Dr. Mike says the flu should not be taken lightly. My sons fever peaked at about 10. 25. Which really got me service. The flu causes inflammation in the body and compromises the immune system. That can trigger bacterial infections, pneumonia, sepsis, even a heart attack. Pregnant women, the very old, and the very young are most at risk.
