Ypsilanti man killed in crash on US-23 while backing up on freeway shoulder Updated Feb 12, 2021; MONROE COUNTY, MI – An Ypsilanti man was killed in a crash Thursday evening on US-23 when he was rear-ended while backing up along the side of the freeway, police say. Emergency crews were called at 6:50 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, to a two-vehicle crash on north US-23 near Consear Road in Monroe County, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators determined the Ypsilanti man, 33, was going north on US-23 when, for unknown reasons, he pulled over onto the shoulder of the freeway, stopped, and began backing up onto the roadway in reverse, police say.
