The 19th edition of the UNEP-IIR-AREA-CSG European Conference on “The Latest Technologies in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning” will take place on June 10-11, 2021, as a mix of online and physical events. The physical part will take place at the Polytechnic University in Milan, Italy.

Circular Economy Coalition Launched for Latin America and the Caribbean

(UNEP) – A new initiative to support Latin America and the Caribbean in the transition to a circular economy as part of the COVID-19 recovery was launched today
[1 February, 2021].
The Regional Coalition on Circular Economy was announced during a virtual side event at the XXII Meeting of the Forum of Ministers of Environment of the region, hosted by Barbados and the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP).
The Coalition will support access to financing by governments and the private sector, with special emphasis on small and medium enterprises (SMEs), in order to promote resource mobilization for innovation and the implementation of specific projects in the region. ....

Sri Lanka's welders learn of dangers of contaminated oil

In line with its commitment to Stockholm Convention, Sri Lanka is working to protect the environment and human health from the effects of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and other man-made chemicals known as Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).
PCBs were commercially produced worldwide on a large scale between the 1930s and 1980s, and have been used in many industrial applications such as electricity transformers and capacitors. However, PCBs have dangerous effects on the environment and human health. They are carcinogenic and have been linked to developmental disorders in children.
Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment (MMDE) is working with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to introduce and implement a PCB management system to eliminate releases from PCB waste stockpiles and equipment containing PCBs. ....
