The Gasquet Ranger District/ Smith River National Recreation Area recently announced the Del Norte County Resource Advisory Committee will be holding a virtual public meetings July 20 from 4 -8 p.m. via Microsoft Teams app (Click here to join the meeting â download the Teams App prior OR call-in: 1-323-886-7051, passcode 763211748#). Additional meetings may be scheduled on July 21 and 22to discuss any remaining agenda topics.
The main purpose of the meeting is to review and recommend existing potential projects eligible for funding and solicit new project proposals. Additional agenda items to be covered during the meeting include election of committee chairperson, review FACA regulations, update committee governing documents, review past practices and determine a new process for project proposals and provide updates regarding the status of Secure Rural Schools Program and Title II funding.

Regional and rural primary schools are being given extra resources by the Australian Government to support mental health.
The Federal Government is supporting the rollout of the Smiling Mind app, which features meditation and mindfulness exercises, into 600 regional and rural Australian primary schools this year.
Applications for the program began on Wednesday and is open to schools from all sectors, including government, independent and Catholic.
Forest Service contracts for new Ravens Roost cabin near Petersburg

The U.S. Forest Service says a popular mountaintop recreational cabin near Petersburg will be replaced this year. The trail that leads to it has also been mostly redone and that work is slated to be completed in 2021 as well.
The Petersburg company Rainforest Contracting will build a new Ravens Roost Cabin at a site about a mile closer to the trailhead than the old cabin. The federal agency says that work is scheduled to begin in a few months.
