Home Minister urges calm over ruling on Arabic words

PUTRAJAYA: The Home Minister has urged all parties to respect the judicial process after a High Court ruled that Christians can use the word “Allah” in religious publications for educational purposes.
Advising people not to make assumptions about the ruling, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin said the ministry will decide on the next course of action after the written judgment is obtained.
“In the meantime, I call on everyone to remain calm, ” he said.
Apart from the word “Allah”, the Kuala Lumpur High Court also ruled that Christians can use three other Arabic words: Baitullah, Kaabah and solat. ....

The death of Byun Hee-soo, a 23-year-old transgender former soldier forced to discharge from the Army last year following her sex reassignment surgery, has reignited debates on the rights of sexual minorities here. Byun was found dead in her home in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, March 3, after her mental health counselor called emergency services to report that she had not been in contact since Feb. 28. ....
