My random thoughts are haphazardly disorganized bits and pieces of things I hear, read or remember, and when the file gets full I try to make sense of them in a column.
As I was doing the story on the VE-Day commemoration, I remembered the Memorial Day parades when I was young. I grew up near the north end of the Fifth Street Bridge, aka Hazel Dell Bridge and currently the Lincoln High School and Veterans Memorial Bridge, where I had a marvelous view of the Memorial Day parades. A portion of the parade would stop on the bridge and the riflemen would fire a volley, the bugler would play taps, and women usually dressed in white would get out of cars and a wreath would be tossed over the rails and into the Connoquenessing. They were the Gold Star Mothers, women who had lost sons or daughters in the war. I didn t think of it at the time, but as I look back to those parades in the 1940s I expect that some of these women lost their loved ones in World War I.
Voters on Tuesday will have the chance to impact the Allegheny County Common Pleas Court’s future as nine seats are up for election. Thirty-nine candidates are vying for 10-year positions on the bench. Judges earn $189,794. Although there is a large slate of candidates this year, it’s not even close

Armstrong Trails is presenting Tunnel Jam at the Brady Tunnel in Clarion County on July 31 to raise money for the continuing construction work on the tunnel.
The Brady Tunnel is part of the 36-mile long Armstrong Trails system. The recreational trails, for hiking and cycling, traverses the former Allegheny Valley Railroad line along the eastern bank of the Allegheny River in Armstrong and Clarion counties.
I-80 Construction Work Begins
Beginning Today, several counties will be affected by road and bridge construction on Interstate 80.
Penndot says the resurfacing project will stretch from Jefferson County through Clarion County and will also include bridge work on I-79 in Butler County.
The project will also include a culvert replacement and other miscellaneous construction
There will be lane restrictions in both directions from mile marker 45 to 73
The speed limit in the work zone will also be reduced to 60 miles per hour.

The fatal shooting this month of Daunte Wright by a Minnesota patrol officer who allegedly confused her pistol for a Taser device had every appearance of a freak accident.
