New East Cobb Cityhood committee leadership team detailed

He asked several prominent East Cobb citizens to serve on an advisory board to examine a financial feasibility study. When one of them asked who else was involved in the Cityhood effort, Gavalis declined to reveal them and that individual quit, citing a lack of transparency.
In its release on Friday, the Citybood group included a photo of Gavalis receiving an award from State Sen. Kay Kirkpatrick of East Cobb upon being named the “Distinguished Older Georgian 2021” by the legislature.

read our Q and A with him here) and to be taken up in 2022 needs a local sponsor in the State Senate. Kirkpatrick, who represents the proposed East Cobb city, did not co-sponsor the initial bill, saying she received plenty of negative feedback. ....

New law allows for Georgia tax credit examinations

Georgia can conduct an independent analysis of its tax credits under a bill signed into law Tuesday by Gov. Brian Kemp.
Senate Bill 6, dubbed the Tax Credit Return on Investment Act of 2021, allows the chairs of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Finance Committee to each request up to five economic analyses each year of existing or proposed Georgia laws that deal with tax exemptions, credits, deferrals, rebates, abatements or preferential rates.
SB 6 also extends sales tax exemptions for economic development projects in specific manufacturing industries. It exempts sales tax on tickets for fine arts performances from nonprofits and museums. ....

Johnny Johnson presented Brenda Rhodes of Simple Needs GA the 2018 East Cobb Citizen of the Year Award. Johnson was a former recipient of the honor. (ECN file).
Johnny Johnson, the owner of a jewelry store in East Cobb, a former member of the Cobb Board of Education and a longtime community leader, died on Wednesday.
The East Cobb-based Kiwanis Club of Marietta Golden K said that Johnson, who turned 75 in December,
“Johnny was a great Kiwanian and leaves a legacy of passion and service that is rare but sets a high standard which we should all strive to emulate.” ....
