Gainesville sister city program pursues statue construction after initial rejection

Alachua County called on artists to design art centered around the concept of a megaphone. 
The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners received 19 submissions. All were rejected, and a Martin Luther King Jr. statue is now the new artwork concept for the west lawn of the Alachua County Administration Building. 
An anonymous citizen offered to match up to $50,000 if the county chooses to have a Martin Luther King Jr. statue created for the west lawn, according to Gina Peebles, Alachua County assistant county manager and chief of staff. A round table was held at the Institute of International Relations on the occasion of declaring May 25, 2021 as the Day of the Sister City of Ashgabat in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. The event was attended by the US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkmenistan Matthew Stephen Klimow.

WeGo Public Transit has hired Renuka Christoph as director of marketing, sales and communications.
Christoph (pictured) comes to WeGo from the Music City Center, at which she served as the director of communications overseeing marketing, media, public relations and communications. Prior to that, Christoph worked as a communications consultant for Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Christoph holds a bachelor’s degree in graphic design from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and a master’s degree in marketing from Tennessee State University. She has served as a board member for Sister Cities of Nashville and as a freelance travel writer for the Tennessee Tribune and The Tennessean. She also launched Nations in Our Neighborhood, an initiative promoting Nashville’s ethnic food and culture. ....
