hese days Marcus Baskerville is no stranger to media attention. The head brewer and co-founder of Weathered Souls Brewing Co. was thrust into the international spotlight back in June when he kicked off his Black is Beautiful initiative, intent on bringing attention to the social injustices faced by people of color. The idea for the campaign started out as a brewery-only release, but with a little push from Jester King Brewery’s co-founder, the concept quickly grew.
Baskerville reached out to other brewers to see if they were interested in participating with the stipulation that they commit to donating 100 percent of the proceeds from their Black is Beautiful beer to organizations that promote equality, places like Know Your Rights Camp, 100 Black Men of San Antonio and African American Dream Maker Fund.
