In 2018, asteroid debris had mysteriously impacted Botswana, Southern Africa. Today, scientists have finally provided a conclusion over what rock did the debris belong to and how it came in contact with Earth. Apparently, tracing its origin was a challenge as the observations picked up only shortly before the debris had contacted Earth. Hence, scientists had to dig down video footage and examine the rock samples, basically take the harder route to finally come to a conclusion. But what is truly surprising is that the debris was found to be originating ....

This week, NASA will start preparing for the possibility of an asteroid hitting the earth in the future.
Asteroids have hit Earth before in the video above, you can see a 200-year-old crater in Quebec. Another such impact in Mexico wiped out the dinosaurs way back when.
But is there anything we can do now to protect our planet? NASA seems to think so.
An asteroid will hit Earth again someday, this is certain. In an effort to prepare, NASA’s Planetary Defense Coordination Office will conduct a tabletop exercise of how they will handle an approaching asteroid. ....

NANJING China is pushing forward its exploration of a near-Earth asteroid and a main-belt comet with one space probe, said a senior space expert on Saturday.
The mission is to send a probe around an asteroid named 2016HO3 and then land on it to collect samples, said Ye Peijian, an academic of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, at the ongoing 2021 China Space Conference, held in Nanjing, East China s Jiangsu province. ....

In a first, asteroid's journey from source to Earth mapped

Story highlights
The asteroid started its journey from Vesta, one of the biggest bodies in the asteroid belt that circles the sun between Jupiter and Mars
Astronomers have recreated the 22m-year-long journey of an asteroid that blasted over Botswana, showering meteorites in the Kalahari desert.
This is the first time scientists have reconstructed such a path of an asteroid to its source.

Yikes!
An asteroid the size of car just missed hitting the Earth on Monday. The asteroid, known as 2021 GW4, traveled at 18,700 miles per hour when it passed the planet.  At its closest, the asteroid was
just over 12,000 miles away from Earth at 9:01 a.m. ET. To compare, most satellites are around 22,000 miles away. Read on!
