The S&P 500 and Dow Jones opened at record highs on Monday, supported by strong jobs data, while investors awaited the services sector report with signals that 2021 could see the best annual economic growth in nearly four decades.

Dhaka’s air quality still ‘unhealthy’ despite rain

Dhaka ranked third worst world cities in the Air Quality Index on Monday morning even though a strong nor’wester, coupled with rains, lashed different parts of the country, including the capital, on Sunday.
Dhaka occupied the 3rd position in the list of world cities with the worst air quality. The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded 183 around 09.31 am.
Nepal’s Kathmandu and Myanmar’s Yangon occupied the first and second slots with AQI scores of 331 and 191 respectively.
An AQI between 101 and 200 is considered unhealthy , particularly for sensitive groups of people like children and elderly population. ....

There was no meltdown.
That’s the primary take-away from the first quarter of 2021. The pandemic is still with us but, unlike a year ago, investors are taking it in stride.
The numbers tell the story. The Dow is up 7.8 per cent in the quarter. The S&P 500 up 5.8 per cent. Nasdaq ahead 2.8 per cent. Here at home, the TSX gained 7.3 per cent.

It all looks pretty routine on the surface. Except it wasn’t. There were many unusual developments in the quarter that will almost certainly have ripple effects as the year progresses. Here are some key take-aways. ....

Permits required for flood-damaged properties located in floodplains

Widespread flooding across Kentucky in recent weeks has left many residents with damaged property that is in immediate need of cleanup and repair. Property owners are encouraged to begin cleanup, debris removal, and mold remediation as quickly as possible, however before reconstruction of residential structures can begin, permits are required from the Kentucky Division of Water (DOW) and local entities.
To help accelerate the process and decrease the cost to residents, the DOW is waiving an applicantâs public notice requirement, and is expediting reviews of applications.
Applications can be submitted to the Floodplain Management Section of the DOW, 300 Sower Boulevard Frankfort, KY 40601 or by email to DOWFloodplain@ky.gov. ....
